My friend and I have been going along our personal stories together but have been choosing different options. He is a charr, aligned with the Vigil, where I’m a sylvari aligned with the Order of Whispers., and subsequently choosing different fears during A Light in the Darkness.

Tonight we were working through our stories after Forging the Pact: I was on Volcanic Extraction, whereas he was on To the Core.

As interesting as the story content was – a comparison between the two in terms of battle content made me quite sad.

We completed To the Core first. It required that the player character (and all party members) use golem suits to go into the volcano and recover a molten core. So you get to stomp around in a cool vehicle and deal with elemental orb spawns while fighting off elementals. It helped develop some sort of a connection between your character and the asura partner as well, which was great. My friend and I loved it!

Then we did the story component for my personal story, Volcanic Extraction. This involved my character and my partner meeting up with squad members at the top of the volcano and travelling in to relocate a missing team. It used the same zone as the previous mission, which isn't really an issue as its a great volcano zone. Instead of exploring, you turn a corner, and poof! a pile of bodies turn into crystals. You then, turn back around, fight the same monsters out of the volcano and you're done. I commented after completion that the story felt like a let down compared to my partner’s. Although, the personal story moment prior to Volcanic Extraction was a touch more emotional it didn’t have the same amount of gameplay my partner’s had.

I’m not sure how many others are running multiple personal stories and finding the same things, but considering my partner’s story had more elements to it I felt as if I chose the less interesting path.

Anyone else feel this way about certain story line forks?
