So as most people know when playing a char you recruit your own warband and they help you during your personal story missions. What happened to them? Why would me choosing an order and helping Trahearne prevent them from following me? Am I not their legionnaire still? What are they doing in my absence?

My warband should accompany me in all my story missions at least to some extent. Maybe one member joins on a mission just so that it feels like the first 30 levels of working with them are not pointless

Shenanigans. That’s what they’re up to. Better go check on them.

But for reals: All you have is the Charr racial ability to call up some (or 1?) of your warband for a bit of help. I wish we could see more of them, like you say, in the personal story, later on, but that would give a bit much of an advantage to Charr characters. I don’t know what could be done to make this workable (other than making a Charr version for every story installment that would balance out the extra help).

But it would be neat.

Well if we had actual functional home instances, it would work, because we could check in from time to time and see what they been doing, would be interesting to be able to “recruit” npc’s from your story that hang out in your personal instance to go adventure with you. Of course they would have to be as useless as most npc’s to keep it from being too advantageous :p

Yah, the warband definately gets thrown aside rather quickly and unceremoniously. It probably has something to do with the fact that some of the other races don’t really have any close allies or anything (Asura has the krewe, Charr has Warband, but Sylvari has pretty much no one, not sure with Norn or human as I haven’t played those races) so to keep it symetrical they just ditched all of them, rather than favoring one race over another. Its definately a shame that something thats supposed to be so tight-nit as a warband just kind of ceases to exist once you join an Order.

Even moreso given that you’re the leader of the warband. It wouldn’t be so bad if you were just another member of the warband and you left, obviously the other members (led by someone else) would just stick around Black Citadel and do their normal duty. But with you being the leader, you’d think they’d go where you go or at the very least stay in contact. I mean, you’d think an order (other than maybe the Whispers) would much rather have a whole warband of Charr join than just one guy.

Even in the home instance, I’ve never been able to find any of my Warband members except the one you choose during character creation (Reeva, Clawspur, ect). Maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough.

Well it is explained in the cinematics

<Training Partner>: I overheard. You’re leaving us to join one of the orders?
<Player character>: I’m accepting a special assignment from the tribune. And the warband will need a leader while I’m gone. That’s you, Legionnaire.
Depending on your initial choice:
Reeva: Ha! And our primus said I was too cheerful to lead a warband. But seriously: I’m okay filling in for you, but a permanent promotion? Are you sure?
Dinky: Me? But I’m not smart enough to give orders. I can follow them, or pass them along…are you sure about this?
Euryale: Me? But…we’re the heart of this warband, you and me. If you’re gone, I’m just a bad-tempered spellcaster that everyone’s afraid of.
<Player Name>: I need someone I can trust, someone effective. You’ve got some rough edges, but there’s nobody else I’d want calling the shots.
<Player character>: If anyone objects, send them to me. Or, just crack their heads until they think different. You’re in charge now: act like it. I know you can handle this.
Depending on your initial choice:
Dinky: I…thanks, boss. You can count on me. Good luck in Lion’s Arch. We’ll be waiting when you get back.
Reeva: Thanks, boss. You can count on me. Good luck in Lion’s Arch. We’ll be waitin’ when you get back.
Euryale: I…thanks, boss. You can count on me. Good luck in Lion’s Arch. We’ll be waiting when you get back.

So they follow simple their own path with a replacement leader while you are away to do greater things. I see many char be actually in a warband, but not activly participating in it.

it depends on your goal in life I suppose. A good example that pops in mind is Lartia Sharpeye (Rytlock’s aide-de-camp):

- What does your warband think of your job?
-They mostly think office work suits me. I’m too…“soft-hearted and shy” is the nicest way to put it. They usually use other words. The plain fact is, I’m better at planning than I am at fighting.

So there must be a lot of warbands without all members activly participating or members who are following different paths..

I don’t think it’s the fact you’re continuing on without your warband or that they’re able to pick up and continue without you, but they just cease…as in stop. You never hear from them again nor can you interact with anyone but your sparring partner nor see any changes in their status. Time freezes at that point when you join an order, and the core of all these complaints, and mine too, is: in a game touting a ‘living breathing world" our personal storyline seems to be exempt from it (changes were supposed to be reflected in our home instance, but nothing really happens in the home instance at all) and that’s not ok. i would LOVE to be able to recruit my warband for future adventures, but until then, just having a home instance that ‘lives" and I can revisit my old friends would do for me. And I understand it would have it’s limits, can’t keep changing it forever, but any change at this point would be welcome.
