So I have noticed that this shouldn’t be allowed period, I have seen other guild members do this and I tested it and confirmed you can stand pretty much in any city and be AFK without dancing ect.. and not be disconnected at all.

There should be atleast a 10-15 min afk timer to remove players from the game.

If it’s not a problem in the first place, why would they? Be useful to know why you suggest something to judge whether it’s a reasonable suggestion.

I’ll assume it’s because you don’t like the ‘vacant minded’ using up all the virtual oxygen.

There is some afk timer, it just kicks you when your afk for an h or so, few of my friends were kicked to character selection screen when they were afk for a long time

What Abigor said. There is infact a timer, it just is longer than what you say. I wasn’t even really afk when it first happened to me, I was just chatting with my guild while standing around dancing.

I am tired of being kicked while I am typing. I also find it annoying to try and RP with someone who is AFK. At least add a way to indicate that a char is AFK.

10-15 minutes? That’s a rather short window…I can understand dropping the current timer to 30 minutes or so but I don’t see an issue with the way it currently is.

Ask them to change status to away. Pretty sure you can change your status in game as offline and away… possibly even busy. I usually log out rather than afk though, so not 100% sure of this. But should be in the friends window.

How do you tell if a completely stranger is ‘Away’? I am not going to add the entire server to my friend’s list one at a time.

after 10 min of idle-ing, the character could go in the sleeping emote or, if this could be confusing, a new emote will make the character sit on a chair, rock, wood, flower, levitating depending on race.
Or a simple pop up bubble above the head saying “dreaming”

I am all for idle animations. There have been a few threads about them and I posted a bunch of ideas.

you should be able to type /afk and it indicate you are AFK. It was available in GW1 but is not in GW2.

I wonder if /away works and give a different indicator above your head like when you change your status to LFG?

They could add a tag infront of your nametag that says away or AFK or something along those lines. And they could also add an automated AFKing, so if you’re inactive for more than 10-15 min you would get the away tag over your head and people will be able to see if you are away or not. And then after being away for 2h, then you will get kicked like usual

Edit: As Ridgeblader said, the away status in your contact list could actually add a tag above your head already, and if it does, obviously they won’t have to add that :P

there is such command stated (/afk) but for some reason it doesn’t work. Another thing is how game determine whether you’re afk or not, it would be nice if game could track your activity like crafting/chatting so you won’t be kicked out because you didn’t move an inch. Though I agree that if there’s no activity from you at all you’d be shown as [AFK] in 10 min like CapN said before me and kicked after 30 min.

No chance. In a dungeon, I’be had to be called away on emergency for 15-20 minutes. Yes, that would be precious to be kicked from the game because I have to check dinner or walk to the chemist up the road for my disabled mother. I’m not mad but I think the original post is rather silly.

introducing some visual indicator would be nice. Super simple: Similar to messaging an offline player, have “The player you are messaging is currently away”… But still deliver the message. By message I mean whisper not mail.
