Money grabs eh? Don’t ya just hate ’em?

Recently i have made a terrible mistake, being a semi casual player and not someone who spends all their time playing GW2, i unfortunately missed the bit about paid for world transfers!

On Desolation there was a bug, only a tiny bug but a bug none the less, a bug that i had come across time after time until it began to gnaw at my insides like some kind of digital cancer! So imagine my surprise upon creating a new character only to find the same bug, still in place and still causing grief!

In a fit of rage i decided once and for all enough was enough and this stupid bug wasn’t gonna get the better of me this time…..oh how i should of just moved on!

I logged out and immediately jumped to the nearest server and lo and behold no bug! Completing the challenge i made all preparations to move back to Desolation only to find i now had to wait seven days, well ok i thought np i can live with that all the while my guildies chortling and laughing at my grave mistake!

“Grave mistake,” i answered

“Yes you idiot, on the 28th Anet are bringing in paid transfers and if i’m correct that’s exactly one day before you could have moved back to Desolation for free!”

Stunned silence my end! What the kitten had i done! All my guildies and friends were on Desolation and we always had been, i was now stuck on Fissure Of Woe!

Quickly logging out i made all the relevant searches and lo and behold there it was, paid transfers starting on the 28th…kitten kitten kitten kitten!!! I immediately got onto Anet and explained my position, as mentioned i’m no hardcore player but have been playing Guild Wars since the beta on Guild Wars 1, it’s my favorite MMO. Upon checking the new transfer rules it would cost me more than £17 to return to Desolation, £17 I DON’T HAVE!

“Never mind” my guildy chums guffawed “you can use gems!”

“I don’t have any gems” i cried.

“best get grinding then” some wag typed in the chatbox!

For me to earn enough gems too get back onto Desolation would take years at my rate of play!

“Never mind” cry Anet “you can guest!”

Well thank you very much, guesting does not allow you to be involved in WvW something me and the guild are particulary big on, plus you gotta guest everytime you log in etc etc, this is no solution!

So here i am…digitally homeless unless i cough up nearly £20, more expensive i believe than Blizzard charge on a subscription model!

Once upon a time you could transfer between countrys without penalty, Americans could play with Europeans and Eskimos could play with Australians (you get the picture) this was fabulous on GW1 and why it has been changed for GW2 is beyond me…..

Actually no it isn’t, it’s for profit, pure and simple, i understand that running an MMO isn’t cheap but nickel and diming your playerbase is just low!

Dear Anet, please alter your transfer model for bonafide guild members, i’m useless to my guild now and in a game based around player and guild interaction that makes me obsolete!

TLDR: learn to read!

Time to start grinding. Plus, I think the WoW transfer fee is the same price. If it means that much to you, just buy the transfer. Otherwise, they gave you a pretty big warning, yet people will always complain. Reminds me of those monthly achievement threads where people complain that they wanted to finish the monthly on the last minute to find that it was reset.

that is still much more cheaper than what Blizzard is taking.Which is 25$ for one single character.
And Anet transfers all your characters for only 17£ which is fine.I don’t understand why people complain.

1) Blizz charge a sub AND to transfer. I believe it’s £15 for each character. When you compare that to £20 for all of your characters….

2) ANet have given you the option to reduce the cost through playing the game.

All in all, ANet notified us this was happening back in 16th Jan. It’s not like they snuck it up on us.

So it really is a case of just coughing up or grinding.

If they are truly your friends, they will help you transfer back, everyone could donate a small amount of gold or silver which you can then change for gems and go back home. If they don’t want to help you out, then they don’t really need you back, they don’t care about you, are those the type of people you call friends ? If not, you can easily get some gold donated to you from your guild.

Yes this is a complaint thread, it’s also an idea on a support forum!

Charging people to move between realms is wrong! Anet never charged a penny on GW1 and did just fine, the seven day transfer wait was good enough!

If a genuine mistake was made (as in my part) then looking into the games internals would show that and surely leniency is better for public relations than strict adherence to the rules!

I was told to post here by support, initially i refused, because i knew the thread would be full of people saying “ha tough luck” etc.

If a player in my situation asks for help then help should be granted, grinding is not the answer and as i mentioned i do not have the money! (please understand this)

Any thread containing material about a persons dilema is not necessarily a whining thread either (please understand this)

I agree rules are rules but like in real life there are extenuating circumstances!

I thought it would of been a better idea if Anet just uped the 7 day wait (2 weeks or maybe even a month between transfers) and made it if you wanted to transfer again before the wait was over you had to pay the £17.

1. They gave a long and fair warning
2. transferring accounts costs them work force. It’s only fair that that work force gets payed somehow.
3. It would have been a mistake if the server glitched and transfered you without you choosing to transfer. You chose to transfer.

GW1 didn’t have WvW. That’s why their charging. Why do you think they reset the ranks?

Because it wasn’t indicative of the servers community, rather than people who’d hop from winning server to winning server.

This is irelevant, we got by perfectly fine before the paid transfers, an easy solution would be to just cap the server pop!

Great answer!

Or at least allow us different characters on different servers, instead of tying your account down and refusing to let you delete it!

If they capped the populations, you still wouldn’t be able to move…

And like I said, if it was all fine before paid, why did they reset the WvW rankings?

Server wins after the week > people flock to top server.

Adding a payment stops the majority of people and large guilds / alliances from doing that. Adding a time limit on transfers doesn’t.

Great answer!

Spying. People were complaining about it before.

If you don’t want to outright beg for gold from your guild, suggest maybe a couple of donation dungeon runs. Everyone deposits all their gold in the bank then you join up on a simple AC run. Whatever coin drops have it sent to you and they keep their tokens/drops.

1 run can probably net around 60silver or more. Couple that with whatever runs you can squeeze in in PuGs and you can be transfered in 1 week, 2 tops.

As a casual player myself, I enjoy the fact you can get by without spending any actual money if you want. I haven’t even tried farming or anything but I have changed all my 5 characters’ appearance, bought over 250 fine transmutation stones, got 2 bank extentions and am currently saving up so when name changes become available, I can rename 4 of my current characters.

SERIOUSLY? You had from the day this game was released to find/pick the server you wanted. They announced server changes were going to cost gems since before the beta started. They even went as far as giving you several months to find the server of your choice. The game has to support itself somehow, your complaint is like complaining that Burger King is charging 30 cents for cheese on a Whopper. Seriously? I cant stress enough how much you need to be slapped. You missed the deadline. Suck it up and farm the gold or pay the money.

It takes literally 1-2 days to farm the necessary gold required to swap servers.

They made a 100% great decision in stopping hoppers from flooding servers and ruining the gaming experience in WvW.

Your willing to sit here and type your heart out and spend countless hours complaining again and again about how your life is so hard because you have to pay 17Euros to switch to a server with your guild. Why not take all that time you spend complaining, and apply it to making some gold so you can switch your account? You probably could have transferred by now.

This is a suggestion forum. If your incapable of paying the money to transfer, or putting in the time and effort to do the work yourself, why should Arenanet change their whole business model because you cant cough up a simple 17euro?

I would get to work on that farming idea, cause arena net aint gonna give you a free pass on this.

If you liked the play-model in guildwars 1, then go back to that. This is a totally different game. And as such will be developed in a different way.

1 ) they said a very long time ago free transfers were going to be temporary

2 ) you should have known the 28th was the cut off date to begin with .
