Money grabs eh? Don’t ya just hate ’em?
Recently i have made a terrible mistake, being a semi casual player and not someone who spends all their time playing GW2, i unfortunately missed the bit about paid for world transfers!
On Desolation there was a bug, only a tiny bug but a bug none the less, a bug that i had come across time after time until it began to gnaw at my insides like some kind of digital cancer! So imagine my surprise upon creating a new character only to find the same bug, still in place and still causing grief!
In a fit of rage i decided once and for all enough was enough and this stupid bug wasn’t gonna get the better of me this time…..oh how i should of just moved on!
I logged out and immediately jumped to the nearest server and lo and behold no bug! Completing the challenge i made all preparations to move back to Desolation only to find i now had to wait seven days, well ok i thought np i can live with that all the while my guildies chortling and laughing at my grave mistake!
“Grave mistake,” i answered
“Yes you idiot, on the 28th Anet are bringing in paid transfers and if i’m correct that’s exactly one day before you could have moved back to Desolation for free!”
Stunned silence my end! What the kitten had i done! All my guildies and friends were on Desolation and we always had been, i was now stuck on Fissure Of Woe!
Quickly logging out i made all the relevant searches and lo and behold there it was, paid transfers starting on the 28th…kitten kitten kitten kitten!!! I immediately got onto Anet and explained my position, as mentioned i’m no hardcore player but have been playing Guild Wars since the beta on Guild Wars 1, it’s my favorite MMO. Upon checking the new transfer rules it would cost me more than £17 to return to Desolation, £17 I DON’T HAVE!
“Never mind” my guildy chums guffawed “you can use gems!”
“I don’t have any gems” i cried.
“best get grinding then” some wag typed in the chatbox!
For me to earn enough gems too get back onto Desolation would take years at my rate of play!
“Never mind” cry Anet “you can guest!”
Well thank you very much, guesting does not allow you to be involved in WvW something me and the guild are particulary big on, plus you gotta guest everytime you log in etc etc, this is no solution!
So here i am…digitally homeless unless i cough up nearly £20, more expensive i believe than Blizzard charge on a subscription model!
Once upon a time you could transfer between countrys without penalty, Americans could play with Europeans and Eskimos could play with Australians (you get the picture) this was fabulous on GW1 and why it has been changed for GW2 is beyond me…..
Actually no it isn’t, it’s for profit, pure and simple, i understand that running an MMO isn’t cheap but nickel and diming your playerbase is just low!
Dear Anet, please alter your transfer model for bonafide guild members, i’m useless to my guild now and in a game based around player and guild interaction that makes me obsolete!
TLDR: learn to read!
