1h+oh don't compare to 2h, balance needed
in most cases, people prefer 2h weapons for most content as they provide better dps, better support, etc. and 2h weapons tend to be all of the aoe weapons as well.. and lets face it, this is a game where AOE matters. and unfortunately when you want to dps which is most of the time as long as you are good at dodge rolling. then you are forced to run a high damage dps weapon that happens to have a lot of utility on the abilities as well.
the 1h weapon damage need to be upped, or the attacks made quicker to compensate. i rarely see a variety of weapons when running with pugs, its mostly always the same weapon sets, this is supposed to be a game about variety and choice. but there isn’t much as it stands that i can tell.
Ele Scepter/Dagger with offhand dagger provides more dps than staff
Engineer Duel Pistols and conditions exceed rifle’s effectiveness
Thief’s weapon are all one-handed, deals a lot of damage
Necromancer Axe/Dagger with offhand dagger beats Staff
(All assuming for the purpose of dps)
Just some examples; 2h does not always equal better

It’s fine as it is and does not need changing, also AoE itself will be getting a nerf, 1h weapons are already 2x faster than 2h weapons, I really don’t see where the issue is.
As a warrior, I really prefer 2x axes over greatswords. Shorter reach but more hits, more maneuverability in my opinion.
Yes as a warrior I also prefer 2x swords over greatswords, the amount of bleeding you can do not only makes up for smaller numbers, but also makes it really easy to rally. If anything, I think 2h weapons could use a boost to make them on par :P
And ignoring the greatsword, while I love my hammer, it has nothing on on Axe/Warhorn.
Also, one thing the OP is ignoring which I’ve been thinking about recently and needs addressing in some form or another: dual wielding gives access to two sigils, whereas your 2-handed weapons only give you one.
2-handed weapons either need bigger advantages to make up for the loss of access to a second sigil, or they simply need to be able to slot two sigils.
Let me just clarify my position when comparing Hammer to Axe/Warhorn.
Hammer gives good AoE and good control, while having slow hits.
The adrenal skill Earthshaker is excellent when it hits, but has activation issues and does not work reliably on anything other than flat terrain
Axe gives excellent hit-speed and damage, reasonable AoE, some control and then AoE buffs and debuffs on the Warhorn, made even more potent when traited.
Eviscerate is a fast spike of huge single target damage that rarely misses and activates as soon as you hit the button.

All the melee weapons I use are 1H with OH unless they are under leveled for the zone/mobs and my 2H is closer to even leveled. At range, it’s more evenly split with some classes using 2H and others using 1H/OH.
Simply bumping up the damage output in one area doesn’t cut it. If melee weapons are changed to do more damage, how should that effect ranged weapons? What changes are then needed for pets and minions? Caster weapons? Mobs?
