How do you see your MS in GW2 from their server?
You don’t, just use ping from the cmd on the gw2 server.

In Aion you could just type /ping, how do you do this in GW2 I’ve seen lots of threads asking for a /ping command so just curious.

Not in this game, not now. It is astounding that they haven’t added that command from the start, but the fact that it still isn’t on…

Well that’s what I was wondering, how you got an accurate MS from the game ^^ I mean I can ping a random server but I don’t think it is a good determining factor as far as knowing your ping in GW2. I’m a computer tech, but admittedly terrible with the networking side :P I like game ping because you can see if the lag is web based or computer based usually.

Using /ping would be the same as the cmd command, truly, as long as it is the server you are on. By the way, how much would a couple of low capacity servers cost, for example, some regional servers for pvp?

I would guess upwards of $500 for a server($2000+ for less laggy ones). I think MMO servers are actually a series of servers possibly a series even for just 1 “game server”. But a networking person would probably have a better idea :P

Well what the hell, then it IS a worthy investment. Why don’t they do it, why don’t they promote the game in other countries, they would get INDEED more winnings at the end. My entire guild has left the game because of the delay in PvP If they had stayed, how many people would they have invited into it?
Why the hell don’t they do it?!?!

MMO servers are much higher priced I imagine.. Players can buy tournament(?) time or space and host on special servers using Gems “soon”. At least thats what i think they said, I’d have to see the post again I don’t sPvP much. Also other country’s have various laws and expenses as far as using servers and playing the game. Even beyond that, some aspects of the game are not vetted for other country’s so a country could be offended by somethings name or look in game (see cantha). I “think” there is a Chinese beta, but different servers. Also people connecting to a US server from far away would experience epic lag based on location. It is possible all that could happen one day though, never know.

That won’t fix the delay at all. The custom arenas are still hosted in the servers, and the laws vetting games are applied in only a few countries, and certainly not the ones where gamers are focused. They won’t let people host their games since they are afraid the data would be used for private servers. Well, they ought to know: It won’t stop them at all. Allowing players to host the game for sPvP would improve the quality of the game to a seriously high degree, since A LOT, and I mean, A LOT of players don’t want to play because of the delay. There are only two solutions for this issue: Allowing players to host, or adding servers only for pvp across the world. It’s foolish from their part, since the gains from the people that couls play this game compared to the loss from paying the servers, it’s a lot. And people would see that they give a kitten about them.
Allowing players to host their own servers opens the door to cheating and hacks, so it’ll never happen.
Hosting servers across the world is also more complicated than just buying a server and sticking it in a country. You’ll also need to hire staff to maintain that server, which may mean you need to hire someone in that specific country where you haven’t an official presence. Is it worth it to pay an extra $20k-$30k a year for one person’s salary just to maintain one server in Oceania? And you probably at least two people, in case one person is sick or quits suddenly. And then there’s the data side of things. I don’t know how ANet have their player databases stored, but considering the fact that they couldn’t even get cross-region guesting working between the US and Europe, adding additional server regions would just be tripling or quadrupling the amount of maintenance and complexity.
Don’t get me wrong; as someone from Australia, I’d love to see more servers across the world, but as someone who works in the IT industry I know lots of reasons why it just wouldn’t be feasible or economically sensible to do so.
they’ve designed a game where in intense combats reaction time is everything, yet they don’t want to invest as heavily as they should to keep any negative modifiers to said time low.
I agree the lags are felt particularly hard for thiefs, as their evade skills don’t work. the other skills are much less of a problem (as this only means the recipient of those skills has a bit more time, which is good, if this is the same for every attack skill over all classes and players). when I leveled my thief in AC, it was a joke how often d/d 3 didn’t activate when I timed it especially to counter a strong attack. in open world I use s/d and I’m a big fan of #2, such a cool skill. but it always feels so incredibly sluggish. it doesn’t matter against lvl 15 mobs, but still.
but the same goes for other classes. with mesmer I typically use a sword 3, 3, 2 combo (send illusion, switch place with illusion and immobilize the enemy, mesmer-100b attack). it’s always fun in wvw when my enemies see me sending an illusion after them and then slash wildly at the air because the second skill activation didn’t work.
with ele I usually just follow my rotation until something happens to which I have to react to. typically the rotation includes placing blast finishers in my fire field.. which firefield? the one which didn’t get activated of course!
guardian has a great aoe stability, one of the best utility skills in game imho. but it’s not so useful if you get knocked down and just can’t stand up again because it just won’t activate, no matter how many times you press the button.
either they bring lags down to a minimum by improving server perfomance and network latency drastically or they have to consider making combat slower than currently.
they won’t rework combat and I doubt they’ll just replace all hardware (this stuff is a bit more expensive than your typical homeserver).
Allowing players to host their own servers opens the door to cheating and hacks, so it’ll never happen.

I agree my solutions may not be at all feasible. But as Oro said just before me, they invested heavely in a fast-paced combat almost 1/4 of their population can’t enjoy because of the delay, so that makes not much sense either. What would be a smart solution to this problem?
