ANet has had limited user generated content in the past with GW1 in the form of weapon creation contests. However, with a persistent world like GW2, I think that ANet has the opportunity to REALLY offer players a method of creating world by players, FOR players. User generated content can add nearly infinite replayability, add a new layer of the game, and have content created that is both lore friendly AND actually SAVES ANet money in development costs.
Below are my ideas on implementation. They are by no means perfect; they are just a guideline to show you where I’m going with this
Bring back Weapon Creation Contests (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Design-a-Weapon_%282007%29)
Add Armor Creation to Contests
User Created Dungeons
In short, ArenaNet has the potential to utilize the Mists as a huge, lore-friendly playground for the players that can generate content almost as fast as they can consume it.
I hope that they take the opportunity to use it!
I agree with:
- armor creation contests and weapon creation contests.
Do not agree with dungeon creation kit, make it dungeon creation contests and yes I will sign it up
One thing though, NOT a la SOE style whatever studio where the users create the stuff themselves…..!
- there is a contest you draw your design you submit it and Arena.net recreates it and implements it.
Man the best thing about Star Trek Online is the Foundry system would love to see something similar find it’s way to Guild Wars 2.
Chromie, just took a look at the Foundry system in STO. That is a pretty cool system from the looks of it and I think it would lend itself perfectly in the Mists of the GW2 universe.
I would like a way of ranking player content so that people can try what others believe to be the cream of the crop.
Being a 3D art hobbyist i’d love a game that let me create my own armor/weapons. I’d gladly share my hard work with the community as well! Imagine the sheer variety of choices as well as the overhead saved by Anet. There would have to be an approval process of course to weed out bad designs as well as keeping to the design aesthetic Anet is going for but there are a lot of people out there i’m sure that would make some really quality stuff.
Maybe this stuff could get pushed to a test server for bug/clipping testing as well as player feedback before going live.
One of the more popular features in CoH was Architect Entertainment, CoH’s mission creator. Yes, it’s been abused for PLing and such. But the OP isn’t talking about that sort of unrestricted content creation.
I think this is a great idea.
I just posted about this exact thing, but this post is much better done than my own. +1 Vote from me!
