New professions or races will deffinetly be added if there is an upcoming expansion. Don’t expect a druid though. Norns already have a shape shift and sylvari are the most natural you can get.

Ehh. I wouldn’t discount a shape shifting class just because Norn can shape shift as a racial. Sylvari get a seed turret but that doesn’t stop the engineer class from getting plenty of turrets themselves.

edit: and the charr being technological didn’t stop the engineer class either.

When I think of a druid-profession, it looks nature-like to me. The ranger profession already covers that theme.
Keep in mind that the professions in gw2 not only have unique features and mechanics but also a unique theme.
Of course it’s just a suggestion but no +1 from me, sorry

Great idea, thoug i would like them to do
PvP more interesting,
PvE more dynamic “Like the chance of lossing a place like LA to the dragons in the monthly dynamic event”.
WvW more equal,
When this happends, i would love to see a new class, everything from pirates, druids, ye even dragon tamer.

I hear tell in other forums of potential new races, surly they will release a new class with the new race. One can only assume tho, so to break away from what we know is covered and into new territory how about…

A. A Chronomancer? Word is this might be a viable class, its unique and offeres a cool potential skill set.

B. A summoner ( Not really a good idea I know , its like a Necro, but to the opposite effect. Even if you give give it more emphasis on the summoning than a mini mob of useless like a Necro, the real Problem is Ele’s also have some summons already)

C. Assassins- What Thieves should have been…

D. A Monk or other Martial Warrior- Sta kitten fist weapons or nothing at all, this is a very viable class type, the Light armor Melee is not there yet. Thieves are medium armor and martial warriors would use Ki as a power source me thinks, their move set would be totally different, high agility and damage, but that just my opinion.

If you want pets play a ranger, if you want to transform be a norn, if you want to control nature play an ele.

Also, MAJOR flaw in your suggestion: The Druids were a group of humans who left society to live in the Maguuma Jungle and supposedly became part of the jungle. So nope

Its better so, because what alot of people seem not to understand is, that this game just doesn’t need more classes, what this game needs is more character progression within the already existing 8 “Basic Classes” via Features like traditional Sub Classes to give this game ways to individualize and specialize our characters more.

Because with such a system GW2 absolutely have everythign class related of mechanics, about what you can think of. No need to implement completely new separate classes.

Who needs as for example 3rd solderi class a Berserker, if Berserkr can just be implemented alot better as Warrior-Sub Class to increase and improve the character progression you can have in this game with your Warrior-Characters??

Just implement there multiple different optinos to choose from and perfect and with tzat we would instantly have alot more individual and uniquely specialized characters in GW2.

For what do we need separate Bards, when Mesmers already are into that kind of theme, as they attack enemies under water with songs (skill one) siren’s call where u see also the attack animated with music notes flying … theres also the focus item “the Bard/ the Minstrel”, that would fit perfectly, when used together with a Mesmer and playing music has alot to do with INSPIRATION and its effects are chaotic, as music can support and control having positive, as negative effects on allies/enemies at the same time, just like the mesmer works whose chaotic skilsl always are most of the time of positive effects, while giving at the same tiem enemies negative conditions..

So Bards as Mesmer-Sub Class would just fit to GW2 like chalk and cheese together.
That way could have just all 8 current classes they individual ways of specialization via certain sub classes.

Necromancers could specialize into becoming torturers and that way become more of like the “death knight type” dark melee class being able to wield 1h swords, 2H swords, whips, and maces too for example…

Thats definetely the way for GW2’s future I hope in regard of better horizontal character progression I’d definetly would like to see happening within the upcoming add ons, because those are mostly likely the patchs, which would be the only way to implement this kind of content, because in regard of marketing it would be the best way to do that, because sub classes would be a huge tease to buy the add ons in the end.

I dont know if it is good to codify horizontal progression quite so much as you are suggesting, effectively sub classes exist at the moment because of the vast differences in how you can trait and equip your characters. 100% agree with you that expanding existing classes is definitely the next step.

For the first expansion what I really hope to see apart from a real tightening up of the pve environment (the current tendency towards zerker builds is almost entirely caused by strange mob and boss design, rather than any problem with support or cc builds) is a new race, and new weapons, utilities and elites for all existing classes. Preferably ones that you have to go out and earn doing pve content rather than just buying with skillpoints, since everyone has a billion skill points by now.

The Blade Dancer

A complex class, sees the war as an art. Gracious in every move, every stance, every swing of a sword has a story to tell. Just his presence is a great inspiration for allies. You get the point?

F1, F2, F3 – Choose stances which change weapon skills. F1 For Defensive Skills, F2 for Offensive and F3 for control options.

- It was suggested before. Still a very good idea.

When it comes to Druids, Rangers can take up the role with the addition of staves and scepters to their weapon set. That is going to be the biggest hurdle to new classes, what can they do that’s totally undo-able by modifying another class with new weapons, skills, etc.

If anything, I want a third soldier class before others just for the balance of it all. 3-3-3. It satisfies my OCD. :x

That Blade dancer sounds really cool to me.

Also If they were to expand upon the existing classes, then sub-classes are a good means to do it. Sure traits can already take you to that place your shooting for. But having an actual choice into which field you then expand into would be really cool too.

For instance, the blade master sounds like a branch off based on the warrior, it could be accomplished by having a prerequisite set of points devoted into certain fields in the trait option, like max of one particular can unlock it`s availability for level 80+ content.

Warriors could have a Legitimate Berzerker Sub Class as well. In my opinion there is potential for 4 sub classes this way, all based on which area you decide to max out.

Warrior
1. Blade Master – Dual blades with emphasis on aforementioned stances
2. Berzerker – Masters of the 2H Swords and damage output
3. Juggernaut – Blunt objects that smash faces and tank for days ;p
4. War Lord – Natural leaders and a force to be reckoned with in any battle ( Aka boons
and such)

Thief (My class)

1. Assassin – Naturally the masters of the stealth kill and dual daggers
2. Rogue – Traps and sabotage, combined with some acrobatic prowess
3. Gun Slinger, Bounty Hunter, Mercenary ( I’m having a hard time with a title for the
Gun lovers like myself) – The range master of this class, emphasis on projectile
combat
4. And maybe an actual Acrobat could be the final choice, kings of speed and agility

I don’t know, my suggestions are very in the moment with little forethought, Other peoples suggestions are not just welcome, but encouraged, and I don’t want to do this for every class so I’m stopping here. ;p

I like the idea of a weaponless class like a Druid using shape shifting or a Monk and martial skills.

I could also see going into the steam punk line a bit more and building a marksman or sharpshooter class focused solely around mechanical projectile oriented weapons.

Other choices that could be interesting are the Bard and Shaman.

@ Vile

I’ve already made up myself thoughts for a complete list. But I think 4 sub classes per basic class is too much. 3 should be the absolute maximum.

Warrior

Berserker
- Specializes heavily on 2H Weapons like Greatswords, Greataxes and Greathammers
- Has a new “Berserk Mode” with special Berserking Skills as 4th additional Adrenaline Tab
- Receives an additional Bonus of 50 points on Strength/ Precision and 5% Critical Damage
- Unlocks access to new Sets of Berserker specific Armors
- Unlocks new Berserker Utility Skills and Elite-Skills
- Adds 30 Trait Points and a new Blood Rush Trait Category

Dragoon
- Specializes heavily on Defensive and allows to wield now Halberds and Lances
- Unlocks the features of Sky Jumps and Mounted Battle Mode with specific Mount Skills, that replace the Weapon Skills, while being on your mount.
- Receives a Bonus of 50 points on Strength, Toughness and Vitality
- Unlocks access to new Sets of Dragoon specific Armors
- Unlocks new Dragoon Utility Skills and Elite Skills
- Adds 30 Trait Points and a new Cavalry Trait Category

Duelist
- Specializes more into an agile battle style with 2 wielded weapons and ranged battle style, adding Crossbows and Dual Shortswords
- Adds as new feature Battle Stances, that change the related weapon skills in regard of the Stance.
- Receives a Bonus of 50 points on Strength, Toughness and Precision
- Unlocks access to new sets of Duelist specific Armors
- Unlocks new Duelist Utility Skills and Elite-Skills
- Adds 30 Trait Points and a new Battle Stances Trait Category

Thats the way how i’d handle that for Warriors for example.

What if in the future we ave the possibility to split our class in 3 types? Light armor, medium armor and heavy. We could get another 10+ levels for our characters in order to use level 90 Ascended armor. And this time those 10 levels will take a grind and lots of specific quests to achieve (solo and group). This would add a lot of propose towards end game.

I was dreaming about separating the engineer into 3 different subclasses:

Scientist. Light Armor.
All round support class
Cultural armor: lab coat.

Alchemist. Medium Armor.
Condition and boons
Cultural armor: Shaman bone and lather coat.

Mechanic/Tinker/Clockwork. Heavy Armor.
Bombardier and Heavy Gadgets class
Cultural Armor: Steam Punk / Ironworks Juggernaut

Thanks every one, this is all really good input.

Orpheal, I looked over your concept and I actually agree that 3 is a better number to shoot for. having 4 subs makes things much more complicated, although the potential is there, trying to maintain a balance is already difficult enough. However I still firmly believe the Idea of new classes, and sub classes needs more attention.

Hey there, Anet now announced within interviews, that wihin their new update politics of updatin the game now frequntly every two weeks, it might become also possible, that they will add by that way also maybe some day “new classes”.

That being said, I think its way more realistic to say, that within these micro updates will get the current classes just get improved and changed first with new “sub classes”, before we will see true new “basic main classes” like the current 8 existing ones.

Such an update politics just is perfect for making smaller stepps in improving the gameplay concepts and features of the basic classes by adding step by step every few weeks some new sub classes over a certain time to provide us more options slowly for a better character progression over time, giving us also that way way more versatility and individuality for our characters.
Thats the key points why I will always support more sub classes over adding more new basic classes, because with sub classes anet can just finetune the game alot better the way they want GW2 to have and the way GW2 needs to be to become a better game related to overall class balance.

That being said, I’d like to post another part of my concept I envision for this game to get made slowly in that way or similar for my most liked class – the thief:

Rogue
- Specializes heavily in agility, the poison mechanics and stealing gameplay, adds Recurve Bows and Katars as new weapons and allows for using dual swords also
- Can use new deadly poisons under F2-F4 and steal now up to 3 times in a row items
- Receives a Bonus on 50 points Precision, Strength and +5% Critical Damage
- Unlocks access to new Sets of Rogue specific Armors
- Unlocks new Rogue Utility Skills and Elite Skills
- Adds 30 Traits Points and a new Raid Trait Category

Infiltrator
- Specializes heavily in Stealth and overall traps as also ranged battle style adding the ability to use Crossbows as also Throwing Stars/Daggers to them
- Their Initiative System gets improved by letting them increase their stealth duration so higher their initiative is and a new “Stalker Mode” that is accessible only at full initiative and costs initiative per x seconds giving them new Stalker Skills that can be used only while in stealth.
- Adds a bonus of 50 points on Strength, Toughness and Vitality
- Unlocks new Infiltrator Utility Skills and Elite Skills
- Unlocks access to new Infiltrator specific Sets of Armors
- Adds 30 Trait Points and a new “Espionage” Trait Category

Saboteur
- Specializes on crowd control/movement control and other manipulating debuffs
Allows them to manipulate/destroy easier summoned things like engineer towers/ nature spirits and the like or to take control over them
- Allows them to use Maces and Axes
- receives a bonus on 50 Precision, 25 Vitality, 25 Power, 25 Condition Damage and 25 Toughness
- Unlocks new Saboteur Utility Skilsl and Elite Skills
- Unlocks access to new Sets of Saboteur specific Armors
- Adds 30 trait Points and a new “Manipulator Trait Category”
