I’ve played this game since BWE2 on Tarnished Coast. I am one of few who help hold the Guild Summits every few weeks for our server-wide guild summit event that even some devs have come out to. I am a roleplay guild GM and an active community member on our server. That said, I have a short list of suggestions for our dev team that may encourage your roleplayers to remain instead of splinter off into other games that we’ve either come from or new ones that are coming out.

List
- Actual town clothes. Similar to the ones the NPCs all over the map wear, not hoodies that aren’t even hoodies. That was a waste of your efforts.

- The ability to sit on furniture without hovering in the air, but actually sit in a chair or on a bench/couch without sitting like you should be at a picnic.

- AFK tags. Something as simple as typing /afk to alter the color of our player tags, changing it back to the standard coloring after typing /afk once more.

- Name changes -added- to the complete makeover package available through the BLTC.

- If you’re not going to provide player/guild housing despite what rumors or the wiki itself has said, at the very least, open more buildings within DR and consider doing -something- with the collapse. PvE/PvPrs idle in your cities, RPrs actually occupy your cities and bring them to life.

I’m sure there are others who have several fantastic ideas, but these are 5 important ones to me, and several others that I’ve had vent to me with regards to the enjoyment factor where they are concerned. In truth, I’m afraid we’ve already lost a good portion of our Tarnished Coast population to older MMOs like WoW, LOTRO, RIFT or Tera. If you don’t offer any reason to stay, those who play on your unofficial RP servers will leave and thus leave Tarnished Coast & Piken Square near empty if not entirely. So please, strongly consider making some additions on behalf of your roleplayers as we want to enjoy the game as well.

Thank you.

I like these ideas! It would be nice to sit in a chair and wear the amazing clothing I see NPCs wandering around with (those dresses the Noble Women wear…hawt).

I do like the “hoodies” and the riding clothes, but they simply aren’t like the stuff we saw at promo.

Emotes is top of my list for RP… the lack of emotes is horrific, not to mention if you target a player the current emotes don’t state you have that person targeted, it’s just a general “you wave.”

Emotes like /cry don’t end unless you make it.
Sitting – I agree
AFK tag – I’d stick this in with emotes also as /away or /afk or even being idle for a set period of time should place you into an AFK mode (even if just on your contact list)
Town clothes & more skins in general.

Personally not a fan of name changing as I find this is about all you have for an identity in-game, you should be able to change sex/race/redo appearance, name change i’m not a proponent on.

I couldn’t agree more!

You will find that the few open buildings that you have around the world are very much used. I would love to see a lot more buildings opened up not just in DR but throughout the whole world.

Another suggestion is to add some back items that are cloaks. A lower and raise hood function would also be nice.

If there were things on the Black Lion Market Gem Shop that were decent looking town clothes (and they don’t have to do costume actions as far as I am concerned.), names changes (for characters that get married, etc.), and upgraded player housing. I would spend actual money on GW2.

As things are currently going it seems that I may be paying a subscription soon for another game that offers a more immersive world for the RP community and saying good bye to this one.

As a fairly new member of the GW2 Roleyplaying Community, as well as a member of the MMORPG community for over a decade, I’ve found that this game’s RP community is one that is very welcoming and supportive of its members — but this is diminishing, and will continue to be unless the game developers actually step in and make the game a more hospitable environment for said community. I find the Roleplayers of GW2 have formed such a communal bond because of the lack of backup from the Dev team; they were forced to, at the risk of playing in a stagnant environment. I know there are some who are content with how the game runs right now — and as for the game mechanics, I’m anything but dissatisfied, otherwise I wouldn’t care enough to post — but like Cassiele stated, you run the risk of losing a great many players to more RP-friendly games.

And let’s be honest… we don’t want to go back to tabletop roleplay. I’m not as pretty as my Elementalist in real life!

I’d be happy if we had some basic text based emotes that didn’t necessarily correspond to an animation even. It’s that or make custom emotes better than /me “does”.

More townclothes and Sitting I think by now must be well known by the dev team.

I’d like a /Lay since Sleep forces your character to snore and makes RP-ing injury look ridiculous.

Since the animations are in their already would a /limp command not be possible to implement that made the character use the crippled animation until cancelled.

I’d also be appreciative of a /still command that made you stand still and not do the idle animations.

Also if /kneel is used you shouldn’t bend down every time, if you are targeting someone you should still look at them as you do hen stood up.

First target someone, then type /wave @

That will turn out like: Carrigan Highsinger waves at Johnathan the Bard.

As long as you put a space then a @ after your emote while targeting someone, it will do as you expect it to. But I agree, more emotes in general would be lovely.

At this point, any indication that they have any regard for the Rp community would be welcome.

I agree strongly with the OP. I’d say those changes wouldn’t just cater to Roleplayers but rather to everyone who enjoys a little more immersion. Or wants to AFK in some furniture for no other reason than being able to. I have no doubt RPers and non-RPers alike want name changes, housing and maybe even AFK tags. Maybe not everyone would agree, but I would say most everyone wouldn’t disagree with these suggestions. As for myself: sign me up.

Not everyone wants to feel like cattle getting herded zone to zone. Some of us like to enjoy other features that focus around the RP aspects of a game. Those little things that make our characters feel important in the big scheme of things. Chances are you will constantly run into people that look like you and dress like you but to the RP community our characters have an identity.

If I wanted PvE and PvP, much better games exist that have the functions GW2 still lacks. I play GW2 for the environment, the story which = RP in MMORPG. That piece is very much lacking and it’s crushing the RP community. In the future I will take into consideration that a game that makes promises to the RP community but lacks an official RP server, or even an RP forum on their site, has no intention of keeping those promises.

Why make such a great world if your only intention is to keep folks in the Mists? I think Anet lost it’s vision. It started off as a game that had the potential of being something great and different. Now I feel like it’s just another remake. Get to 80, 100% map completion, come back once in awhile to see if there is new content.

Developers make a huge mistake in disregarding the RP community. It’s the RP community that settles into an MMO for the long haul. It’s RPers who explore the environments and the developer’s hard work in depth. PvPers just care about combat mechanics and gear stats.

GW2 is a beautiful game with no way to interact with it. It’s like a hot girl with no personality, only fun for so long.

I agree with this. At least -SOMETHING-

More people and Devs need to see this. It would be nice to maybe get an update or comment of some sort from the other side of the playing field.

We could use more town clothes, definitely some variety and my heart goes out to Heavy armour characters that are either: FULL ARMOUR or VERY CASUAL. Some in-between would be good for them.

Also if it’s a ‘waste of their efforts’, I think they’d probably realize that if they weren’t happy with them? They wouldn’t have made and released them.

Being able to use furniture would be nice, but I’d also settle for emotes like City of Heroes had. Where there’s different styles of sits or even stuff like /lean.

While the Away tag is nice, yeah. There’s nothing for in-person when you’re looking around to differentiate people who are there or not.

Name changes would be cool.

There are more cities than just Divinity’s Reach.

I agree with all of the above suggestions.

I’d like to see that Coats not be split between “Coat and Leggings”. The best description of this I can provide is within the outfit made for Wintersday as it appeared on the males avatars. The pants on this outfit are amazing and I’d like to be able to mix and match my outfits as I please.

On the topic of coats, could we please get some female outfits with normal length tops and actual pants? Skirts are nice and all but not everyone wants their female avatars running around in skimpy outfits.

Yeah I wish we had more of such smaller details, I’d also like to see some kind of dedicated roleplay server, at least one where people can play at a slower pace and smell the roses, at the moment everyone just rushes and focuses on killing stuff instead of living in this living breathing world.

Doomguard, the unofficial role playing servers are Tarnished Coast (NA) and Piken Square (EU). Both are full of RPers just waiting for more RP. Neither really need the official lable ‘RP Server’, the RP community just… claimed them anyway xD
