Could we make the wolf permanent until it enters combat, then start the 30 second timer, after which it disappears?

Right now you summon it and it disappears after 30 seconds, which is why most people never use it. If the wolf stayed until you start fighting, then disappeared 30 seconds after the fight started, it would be a lot nicer to use, without making it any more powerful.

Thanks! :-)

Do you have any idea how ridiculously overpowered this idea would make Mistfire Wolf? Just make it more like the Sylvari racial elite, Summon Sylvan Hound…or the Human racial elite, Hounds of Balthazar.

On the contrary, it would not make it any more powerful whatsoever. As soon as it begins combat, it starts the 30 second timer. In case you didn’t know, this is already how it works, assuming you summon it immediately before battle. Naturally, the cooldown would begin when the 30 seconds begins, just like now.

In fact, nothing would be different, but you could finally summon it like a normal pet or minion and run around with it before engaging in battle. It would change absolutely nothing with regards to battle, but would make it much more appealing as a Digital Deluxe feature.

I’d rather have them reduce the cooldown.

solution to your problem though: cast it right before engaging.
I don’t see the problem tbh

That’s not a solution, you’re right you don’t see the problem.

people paid for the wolf and want to actually see it more. Imagine getting a legendary, but it looked like the precursor 87% of the time.

maybe he just wants to see it more, having it out while not doing anything wouldn’t hurt anything.

Well then the wolf would play like a ranger pet as most encounters are under 30 secs anyways.

As most of you say, the point wouldn’t be to affect combat in any way, just to be able to run around with it. Needing to summon it right when you’re going to start fighting isn’t a very good mechanic for a pet or minion. It’s a major pain that we can’t summon it and have it ready to fight when we’re just running around WvW or a PvE map, like any single-summon pet or minion.

As a Necromancer with the Elite “Summon Flesh Golem” skill, you get a comparatively strong ally which is permanent. The least the Mistfire Wolf could do is not despawn until it has been 30 seconds after engaging in combat to make it more appealing.

TL;DR- I want to run around with the pretty wolf and show it off >.<

Yes, I agree to this suggestion completely.

Although, not just Mistfire wolf. I want this to happen to all pets on cooldown. I would love to have Warband support follow me around like I am a Centurion.

Because when something like this is implemented. It’ll be easier to implement for all other summoning skills like Warband Support, Hound of Balthazar, Elementals and others. This will enhance immersion and makes the weaker skills more favorable for the cosmetic instead of looking directly at the power.

Having a summonable creature follow you around until combat also consumes more resources. Every additional object in the world is yet more data that needs to be sent from your game client up to the server and then sent down to every player in the area. As such, it’s unlikely to be implemented as it would mean increasing network traffic for not very much gain.

Having my combat golem stay with my asura out of combat would be so wonderful.

Minipets, pets and necro minions exist – server resource wise they take just as much. 1 more summon is nothing.
Are you implying that: if everyone played a ranger/necro it would break the server ?

Minipets aren’t as much of an issue as they are invulnerable and do not take part in combat, minimizing the data they send up to the server.

But yes, if you had a Group Event with 30 people involved, and then compared that to the same Group Event where all 30 people were Rangers with pets or Necromancers with minions, I guarantee you that lag and performance would be noticeably worse than with the first group.

That said, ANet IS introducing new options to help reduce culling, so changing summons might be feasible after all once the changes go through.

Mistfire Wolf is underwhelming at best, which, for a collector edition feature, is unacceptable. Make it a Hounds of Balthazar clone so at least it has a minimum of use. As it stands, this skill might as well not exist.

I am very happy with everything else in the CE box, it’s just this one skill that is almost invisible due to short duration.

This would actually effect combat as you can effectively have 2 wolves in a row assuming the encounter lasts more than 30 seconds.

You would summon your first immediately then before you enter combat if the skill has a already fully recharged it can be used twice.

I don’t think this would matter much because the wolf is likely melee and melee is easy to kite if it’s AI

Add more sound effects to The Minstrel plz.
