There’s a developer or game designer who doesn’t like this game.

First you spend five years creating a magical, wonderfully complex world where we can follow creative stories, stumble upon personal as well as world shaking events, discover new vistas and vibrant vicinities, laugh at inhabitants’ peculiarities, uncover treasure troves, craft creative accoutrements, hone our fighting skills against the evils of Tyria, and all the while as we are assaulted by the variety, vastness and whimsy of it all.

Then along comes someone who creates ‘Experience Boosters’! In essence they are booting us, as rapidly as possible, out of this Eden toward our end (game). I delete these poison pills as fast as I receive them. Yet I cringe every time I gain experience through crafting or discovering new vistas or even helping the folks of Tyria. Why is someone pushing me out so rapidly? It’s the craziest notion ever.

My suggestion: ‘Experience Inhibitors’. They would (or should) be the most sought after item in the game.

That, and fix the tab-targeting system which causes me no few amount of deaths as I target a half dozen neutrals, weapon piles, and enemies in the next county before finding the one beating on the back of my head.

Experience is always a good thing. Even once you hit max level you use it to accumulate Skill Points, and certain things cost A LOT of skill points to buy. If you don’t want to feel overleveled for an area, just use lower-level equipment. There are white-item vendors in every area that sell level-appropriate gear on the cheap.

Tab targeting is terrible. Use “closest enemy” targeting instead. (Take a look at the controls menu, it’s not bound by default.)

The entire world scales depending on where you are. The experience is not about leveling or gaining exp points. It’s about exploring the world and getting involved in the events and tasks each zone has to offer. The exp boosters are a part of the gem store which is where ANet makes their money to help further finance this game and its content.

This is not World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Rift, or Star Wars. Experience points and your level don’t mean much in this game and don’t mean anything in certain places liked Fractals. Sure your hindered by lacking some utility skills or gear but that’s the point to the world scaling. It’s a handicap that allows you to take part in portions of the game that you’d be limited from in others of the genre.

FYI: Once you hit 80 you keep leveling to gain skill points used in purchasing the last few missing skills you have along with ingredients for the mystic forge. So don’t toss those boosters, there quite helpful.
