I’ve spoken with a few mods over the time since launch and have received a lot of opinions from other players on things that would be great to have implemented into the game. Sorry if any of these are repeats. I don’t read through the forums often and these are all things to enhance the basic platform of the game, not things like class adjustments. Feel free to post any ideas, etc. that you come up with based on what I’ve said. I also think I have enough in-game experience to have a grip on things I’ve noticed, over 1400 hours logged and barely ever afk, all eight classes up to 80, 4 100% map completions with the other 4 past 50%, 4 100% story completions with the other 4 past Claw Island, a good amount of wvw and hours of trading post usage, and dungeons, farming, event chains, etc. Also keep in mind that I do fund Anet with money to help support their f2p system so don’t think I just want stuff for free. I’ve bought plenty of character slots, black lion keys, inventory space and bank expansions, etc. These are ideas that I think would improve player appreciation, group activity, player count, among other things for make the game better in the long run. These are in no order of importance, just as I came up with them while typing.

Trading Post Preview – Allow us to preview items from the trading post before we buy it and realize it really doesn’t look good.

Trading Post Armor Search – Allow us to select light, medium and heavy as armor search options so we’re not scrolling through 2 types of armor our character can’t even use. Currently level 80 exotic chest armor lists 51 options. To find what I’m looking for I have to look at 51 items, which takes a lot of time when going through 8 class characters.

Free Waypoints after 100% – I’d like to see a reward setup for zone completion to allow a character to map back to one, or any of the waypoints in that zone for free as a bonus for zone completion. I’ve mentioned this to plenty of other players and all agree that it hinders participation to have to charge to map around. GW1 didn’t cost anything, I wish GW2 had that same system. Also, it would give a reason for players to go to zones they don’t normally do for story quests. If nothing more, make it free to travel from one racial city to another so we don’t need to go through Lions Arch to get there without a cost. It would save on loading time and overflows.

Magic Find Chance Listing – I would like to see a listing for the magic find percentage added to the hero panel. It’s a stat on armor and weapons so I don’t see why it’s not listed there as well.

Allow the Character Selection to Fit and Be Customized – At the character selection screen I would like to be able to set all of my characters on one screen. I have 14 on my account and have to constantly scroll to find the one I want. It would be nice to be able to set them in a static place as well. It’s a small thing, but with how much I log in and out through my account it gets very annoying.

Make Anet Points Count for Something – It’s obvious. We’ve earned these points and all they are right now is a bragging right. Do something with it, hit 5k and be able to select a bonus for mf for a week, get a title, some type of in-game item reward…I’m sure there’s something you could come up with to make it worth trying to obtain. Currently there are a lot of achievements in the game that people won’t bother doing because the anet point rewards don’t give anything back.

Less Account Bound Items – This is one of my top complaints. Everyone in the game struggles with this. We can obtain so many account bound items that we will never use. I have dozens of items that just sit around. Our in-game rewards are supposed to amount to something. If I buy keys with “real life” money and I get items that I can do nothing with then it’s really pointless. If an item has been used to be soulbound that’s fine and understandable but to obtain a minipet and have it account bound is very ridiculous. My wife got 2 of the same mini for Wintersday, there’s only a point in keeping one. She gets no benefit from having a second one and she can’t put it on the trading post to gain any reward for it. I believe this needs a total revamp for what should be account bound because nobody can agree that this system favors the player.

Customized Weapon Stats – Allow us to choose weapon stats from a merchant when trading in tokens or other items for that reward. For instance, I just turned in 4 Pact Victory Tokens but the stats aren’t what any of my characters would use so I just tossed them up on the trading post. I can understand there are combinations that you don’t want mixed but that’s not what I’m asking. Allow us to select currently used combinations when turning them in so we can keep the skin with usable stats for that character instead of just saying “well I hope this sells” or having to buy another item to transmutate it with. Even if you make something in the trading post available with gems that allows us to do it, let it happen.

Increase Value of Items – I think some items need a higher value. Obviously junk is junk and should be priced as junk. But why is a level 80 green only 1.7ish silver to a merchant and a level 5 isn’t much less? I think items that are from higher levels or areas should have a greater reward. I know for the casual gamer it’s really hard to make money in this game. Even the items for Wintersday were worth nothing. GW1 had it right where if you got a drop from a special event it was worth the work. A lot of items in GW2 just make you not bother.

Decrease Buff for Skill Recharge – Make something in the game that allows skills to recharge faster outside of a trait line. Food, consumable, etc. At least 50% of the elites in the game are not worth the time it takes to recharge making them pretty non-elite.

Lower Cost of Gold to Gems – This is another obvious one. I understand that you guys need to make money but one of the big pushes for the game was that you can “earn” anything you can buy. It’s a great concept. But nobody in their right mind is going to pay 6 gold for a black lion salvage kit, 1 gold for a trader express, the current sale price of about 4.2 gold for a mini 3-pack set, etc. As I said earlier that gold is hard to earn in the game and I can go earn money faster at McDonald’s. When it takes on average about an hour to earn 2-3 gold when doing max magic find farming it’s a very uneven system when that only turns into 100-150 gems. Not too long ago 1 gold only went for about 40 gems. This system need an overhaul to keep people interested.

More Options for Reward Items – I would like to see more vendors accepting reward tokens and other similar items. Even if the items aren’t up to par with what is currently offered. I have over 1600 badges of honor that I won’t use for anything because I’m going for dungeon armor and am not going to bother crafting any legendary weapons. Take a look at what the fractal token reward system is like, a lot more options. I think this should go for any such reward.

Weekly Events Like In GW1 – Add in some events to get people excited. Make people have a reason to revisit areas with double drop rate in this zone for the weekend. Do double damage in another zone the next weekend. Special drops during this event chain, 1/2 time countdown on dragon champion spawns, you guys are great at this stuff, why not add it in? GW1 had the right idea for this and it was really the best part of the game. Every weekend had something and eventually there was something that would benefit players in any aspect of the game, even for those who only did pvp.

Part 3

Repeat Rewards for Seasonal Events – Let’s face it, everyone was psyched for Wintersday. I was floored and ready to roll. YAY!!! WINTERSDAY!!! LION’S ARCH LOOKS AWESOME! BRING ON TIXX!!!!!! But when it came to the actual things to do it was lacking. After doing anything once, there was no reason to ever do it again. There was no “polar bear farm” type of thing. Nothing made us stick around to enjoy it. I got the completion each day as they came out and then it was out to do business as usual. We couldn’t even get all of the minis by doing what was there. I have 2 frames and 200 cogs with no use cogs. What’s the purpose in that? Save for next year? We don’t even know if they’ll be the same next year. Even if we do get them all they’re account bound. There’s no benefit to participating. The only thing I enjoyed repeating was the snowball arena. Again, you guys are great at this stuff and I was hoping for more.

More Items on the Trading Post for Sale – This would be a cash cow for anet as there are plenty of things that could be implemented on the trading post that currently aren’t even in the game. I don’t mean mounts. Everyone with common sense knows this isn’t WoW, shouldn’t try to be WoW, and that WoW can stay with WoW so if you want mounts, go play WoW, or LOTRO, and any other game that has mounts. I mean that there should be stats boosters. Consumables that give free mapping for 1 hour or 5 uses, etc. Special dye kits for rainbows, chrome, glowing effects. 11th skill slot for a day. Instant heal consumables with a countdown of course. The options are limitless for what you guys can do and I know it’s not about throwing everything at us to buy, but there are a lot of things the game could really use for various reasons.

Additional UI for Inventory Items – It would be nice to have additional slots somewhere that we can place some inventory items for quick access on the screen without having to open up the inventory. Being able to put boosters, food, weapons that we swap to, etc. would be invaluable. It’s really hard being a multi-weapon Elementalist in wvw if you have to open up your inventory and hero panel to swap out weapons just before a fight.

Zone Completion Reward Tokens – I’d like to see tokens handed out instead of weapons or armor we can’t use. It would at least let us get something we can use from completing that zone. At times I’ll get 2 of the same item and I can’t use either.

Chest Timers – Can we have somewhere that lists how much longer before we open a repeat chest that we got the day before? Somewhere in the hero panel for instance that lists “??? Chest” with a countdown before we can open it again? It’s hard to know if we should do a jump puzzle again when we can’t see the chest for it’s availability. The Eternal Battleground chest is a nightmare when you have to fight through it, and getting up there just to find out you’re still on cooldown is killer. Along with this can we please have it set for 23 hours or even 23.5 hours? I’m not one with this problem but come across plenty who do that they have a short window to play and since you have to wait at least that 24 hours it’s always offset a bit for them to get it the next day.

Make Commanders Earned in WvW – I have 2 commanders, and I did nothing to accomplish it that has anything to do with wvw. The intent on commanders was for a player to be a leader in wvw (yeah they have some uses in PvE but are mostly worthless) and you should never be able to buy leadership. I have plenty of wvw type experience and have done a lot of wvw so I make a decent leader. But even still, it should not be able to be purchased with gold. Make it a kill count achievement or a mix of various others that are listed under the WvW section in the hero panel. Give back the 100g to commanders and make us earn it the right way. Everyone agrees that most commanders don’t have a clue how to command for the best interest of a server.

Part 4

Increase Party Size – Five for a dungeon is fine. But in areas where the player limit isn’t numbered please increase the party size. If there are 7 people from my guild clearing an area don’t make 2 of them have to run around without seeing the other 5 dots. The same goes for wvw where it’s easy to waypoint back after death and have to find your the people you were with manually or in chat.

Mail/Chat/Trading Post Listing Suppression – I keep getting chat suppression in the game by calling things out in /say, /team and /map chats. This goes for wvw and pve. One time I got /map suppression in Cursed Shore for trying to get a party together for Arah story. I said “lf 3 more for arah” for instance once every 2-5 minutes and I got cut off. The same goes for mailing since you can only mail out 2 things per 1-2 minutes. I host events in the game and I can’t send out rewards without having to stand around waiting for the cooldown. I also do mass selling on the trading post for materials and to clear the items out it usually takes me 30-40 minutes to do what should only take 10. I do that often too so it really takes a lot of time out of my playing just to stand around waiting. Just give us more leeway. I know it’s intended to stop spam and gold seller’s intent but it’s a bit too tight to do it to players who have never been reported before.

Faster Bot Report Response – Everyone knows that the economy in the game suffers because of the number of bots. I don’t understand why they are allowed to get away with what they do for so long before they get the Dhuum smack. I’ve reported bots for days before anything happened. If the response was faster, they wouldn’t have time to justify what they do and it would drop their numbers down as well as the number of hacks significantly. If you guys receive a report, go to the area right away, validate it and ban them.

Better LFG System – Yes, there is a very hidden “LFG” system in the game. It doesn’t say what you’re looking for and honestly I can’t even tell you what the options are because it’s lacking so much. Make a party system like in GW1 because when we have to use an external website like gw2lfg.com just to get parties together there’s something not right.

Bring Back More GW1 Items – I miss my Japigwen (Gwen Doll) in GW1. I also miss my tormented weapons, voltaic spears, racial armors, rainbow phoenix, etc. There are a lot of great items from GW1 that should have acquisition options in GW2. Currently all I know about are things from the Hall of Monuments, which I think getting 50/50 for was not accounted for enough. We didn’t even get any 31-50 rewards besides titles which was the hardest part. Back to point though, those popular things from GW1 that everyone worked hard to obtain…bring more of them back in!

Part 5 (and last)

More Emotes – Self explanatory, 19 emotes is not enough for an mmorpg. God knows I hate RPers but it’s fun to have the option to /smack someone. There’s no rock/paper/scissors, no /roll 100, come on!

Gathering Node Level Listing – It would be nice to have nodes list a tier level so we know that the tools we have equipped go with that level. For instance a steel harvesting sickle lists all of the things that it can pick at that level and says anything of a lesser level. Why not just say Steel Harvesting Sickle (Tier 3) and on the plant node is says Cabbage (Tier 3). The confusion for trying to remember what each level can do is horrible. The Black Lion tools don’t even tell you what level they can take, you just have to hope it works! There are 3 types of nodes; ore, food ingredient, wood. There are 6 tiers of tools. Then the various types of nodes you can pick with each one. A simple change will make this so much more efficient.

I’m sure there are plenty of others I’ve thought of but can’t pull out of the brain atm and there are others obviously like in-game voice chat but I understand that’s on a whole different level of what to expect, which I tried to stay away from. Anet are the kings of making a game worth playing for years, please consider what I’ve said because I think all of these will make GW2 gain the longevity that GW1 has.

I totally like the idea of getting tokens for completing all hearts/poi`s and waypoints in a map, instead of armor thats never any good!! At the end, perhaps we can use them for “Wayfarers Items”.. Weapons or armor.. Tyria Wayfarers Weapon/Armor..

I couldn’t agree with you more about increasing party size outside of dungeons! It’s totally annoying that you can only group 5 guild members together for quests and events.

I have never had a issue with group size, but sometimes i think bigger groups would be more fun. anything with the money in the game just sounds to me like “i don’t want to work for items” some people LOVE working for items. Decreased skill recharge on elites?? some one is not using elites properly. LFG chat would be nice. more emote would be nice. I didnt play gw1 so i can’t compare to the former glory of that, but compared to the other MMO’s ive played these events are amazing. for gathering I just use ori tools on everything. don’t “up -enter-” be creative with your chat and you don’t get suppressed. The added things to BLT:dyes would be nice but- there is a good reason some of your suggested stuffs are not in the BLT “pay to win” there is a revive orb though.

so much to respond to but i’ll just stop there.. lol.

Basher: That’s my point. I’m in a guild with over 200 members, almost always with 20 on and repping. When we hold events we usually have 50+. If we have 25 people that want to do 1 event we’re supposed to make 5 groups? Just seems limited when it doesn’t need to be.

Meowwilson: Constructive criticism is more than welcome but I just wanted to respond to a few things. I have no problem working for the money we make in the game, my argument is that there are tons of high level items in the game that are worth nothing more than the minimum. There should be better base structure of merchant worth imo. As for elites, no skill is worth having on your bar when the recharge is doubled that of some others. I believe some are at a 5 minute recharge. While they’re elite and obviously are to be used on an “as needed basis” if there’s a decent elite that takes 2 minutes to recharge and anything else worth while is 4+ then those that are 4+ are deemed worthless. For the nodes using ori over the correct level drops your profit margin down tremendously but I understand why you do it. Just a simple change for the tier structure I mentioned would solve all of that. For chat, I don’t “up/enter” often and I get suppressed for not even using “up/enter” or even repeat lines. You can talk in /say chat with nothing in common and it will cut you off. For the tp I agree that p2w is a horrible idea, that’s not what I was getting at. Technically they already have that with the armor boosters and stuff anyway but they could take it so many steps further, and leaving them out of pvp/wvw would be fine. I’m one for “no player should be able to beat another on anything but player skill” so my intent for what I mentioned was far from p2w. For the revive orbs I think I have about a dozen on storage, I really don’t care to use them. Even if they just add items like I mentioned above into the BL chests, daily rewards, or something else they really don’t have much to offer at this time.

I didn’t really think about it but i do salvage everything… i dont even sell rares or exotics. i had something like 80 gears in my invintory once too… 5 silver? lol. as a mesmer though time warp can turn the in a battle.. it only lasts 6 seconds or something too. 3 min cd i think. mass invisibility is also awesome. the other ones i have never found useful though. i don’t know about other classes so much.

you must talk a whole lot then.. lol. I talk a lot and spam chat with LFG and i never get surpressed :P

but anyway. i like your ideas better now. thanks for further explaining.
