Hi everyone,
First, I apologize if the idea has already been posted. Second, I apologize for my non-native speaker English. On to the suggestion :
I’m one of those guys among many who followed the GW2 news years before launch, including the great pieces of lore about the races (skritts !) and places of Tyria. And I feel a little disheartened not to see any of it ingame. Most newcomers are thrown into the game, with very little background to flesh out the universe, and their experience. Which I don’t quite understand, seeing how much hard work was put into explaining every race, every area by the lore designers.
Sure, there are a few books and stuff (Ebonhawke for instance), sure the Scouts help a bit, but the info is not recorded anywhere. I do think a Secret World/Mass Effect-style codex/compendium/lore book/call-it-whatever-you-like would be a great addition to the game. It would not only add credibility to the universe and provide players with information, but also give even more to do in PvE. It could be quest rewards, a vista’s additional reward, even a separate objective, I don’t know. It doesn’t even have to be mandatory.
There could be entries about events, races, places, all divided into several articles (written by inhabitants of Tyria of course) that you would find in a different way. What I found when creating alts was that each choice made during character creation ended up in slightly different missions, delving into different problems, and revealing parts of the plot I had no idea about. This could even add more replay value to the game, as some lore entries would depend on your personal storyline missions (which depend on choices and your race).
I don’t know why this hasn’t been implemented, because of deadlines, coding limitations, design decisions, or sheer forgetting, but it really feels like it should be there and isn’t. All the lore is there, just put it in the game !
