A "green screen" spot would be nice
Or you could use a photo-editing program. Even if you had a single-color background, no one in the right mind would use a quick and dirty method, which has the potential to leave behind so much stray pixels on a given pictures, for graphic or video purposes.
(I can only assume you’re planning on using a quick and dirty method such as using magic wand + delete, given the nature of the suggestion.)
If you really wanted to get a good quality cutout, I’d recommend using photo-editing software like GNU Image Manipulation Program, Paint.Net, or Photoshop, creating a layer mask with the hardness down to 50% or so, and then carefully block out the background and undesirable elements.
For machinimas, an option to place some sort of temporary green screen in a PVE zone would be very helpful. It could be a consumable item that lasts for a limited amount of time.

I would disagree, but since I’m actually well aware that there is no standalone GW2 model viewer, I’d vouch for it. Though I think if other players could see it other than the user, it might get complaints due to it being blatantly unappealing to the eye.

The current method I use for static images is similar to your suggestion. I just usually take the screenshot somewhere in Shiverpeak with a mostly white hill just behind the character. Then it’s a combination “quick and dirty”/“correct way”. (I generally don’t want to take the time I would need to do it the right way completely, so I cheat.)
For video, it’s a whole other ballgame. It’s much harder to get rid of all the little particles, especially the constantly falling snow. While it does work in a way, it makes for messy quality. I’ve tried using green hills also, but then to get rid of the more yellow shades, the chroma filtering on my video editor takes away pixels in the character’s skin too. Then there’s the darker shades of grass that end up taking away weapon and armor pixels, or darker hair. I’ve even added several different layers of chroma filters, but the results don’t differ much.
It would just be nice to have a quick fix for that. If not, oh well. There are ways to make do; they just aren’t ideal is all.
Yes…. video is a whole other ballpark. If only someone developed a fully functional model viewer.

lol Yes, that would be nice too.
You CAN use texmod in order to replace textures with green ones. But it’s a pain in the butt and texmod can make the game really laggy, which means terrible video recording rates, which means it’s not too useful to begin with. Have fun rotoscoping.
