A new class? MONK!
I don’t know what planet you’ve lived on, but two things.
1. GW1 brought in 4 new classes: Assassin and Ritualist in Factions, and Dervish and Paragon in Nightfall.
2. GW2 was made specifically not to have a monk of any kind. And what you’re describing is precisely what a Guardian is.
i meant races they didnt go as far….hence (classes) were mentioned prior.
iits not a guardian. its a cleric/healer/monk etc. i suggested more aoe dmg more aoe heals/buffs/blinds/burns/Kds. somethign healing more than a guardian …… necro has AOE blind pulse but doenst use it as much as other better marks….guardian has judges intervention….. im suggesting this bc usually zerg v zerg is about 15-20 secs before one wins and the other dies/splits and runs for the hills. they basically turn a huge battle into a quick skirmish as one guild is usually more organized than the others. my guild has had 50 v 50 battles and almost everytime we have 0 downed players and just steam roll the opponent guild. i mean just obliterate. these battles laste less than 8 seconds. there is a big gap in play strength from guild to guild or zerg to zerg. this would help lengthen the fights….. and also bring in revenue and keep the enviroment fresh and changing by adding in a new variable. i mean if you are going to be happy with this game for the next 2 years as is….well thats gr8 for you. id like to see a lil more diversity down the road. god knows we havent had any new lands/content. i mean a dungeon we got is cool but its not exactly more than a 20 min exploration expansion in the sense of running tip to tip. lot of that map is open too. havent had any new skills come in….as they are still balancing the ones we have. you act like im suggesting something outlandishly horrid. :P
To all others: if you dig a monk what would you suggest as a role? if not what other kind of class would you suggest/?>

maybe yah. i think they will definitely add one….and def at or by the 1 year mark. new games will be coming out and they need to keep this game evolving and fresh. hope they do it
I wouldn’t mind the fact of adding a smite monk that is basically a more like a caster-based guardian, but that won’t happen. Their lore is already set on where the monks and paragons went. They influenced each other between the time of GW1 and GW2 and basically merged into the Guardian: A heavy-armored support/heal class.
Did someone say Monk? GW2 Monk? You mean a D&D-style fisticuffs guy in light armor that goes around at high-speeds with leaps, charges and dashes in order to beat foes up with his bare hands Monk?

idk i agree ( i would LOVE to see a monk) i think they will make a like dark/evil heavy armour class because there is necro and theif and they r both bad

I’m just going to assume you haven’t played either of em cause they aren’t bad.
in gw1 there were
2 heavy classes
5 light classes
3 medium classes
why it is considered balancing having a third heavy class?

No monks please. This whole board will become filled with “am monk no get loot eff anet why?”. You have to do damage to get loot in gw2 and a healer won’t get anything. Not only that, GW2 would have to be completely redone to account for healers. You’d need a healer at all times or a healer would break the game and let you steamroll everything. Go play guardian.

Monks are a human specific profession. They will lorewise never be happening for any other playable race as there exist no charr monks, no norn monks nor no asura monks…
No class that has to do with any divine themes will ever be playable in GW2, which is also the reason why we will never ever hopefully see the dervish back, as it was a way to human specific clas with all of its wannabe god avatar skills.
In regard of skills the monk has been mostly absorbed as good as possible into the guardian.
in regard of martial arts, thats something different and the best class for that role to fit in would be the thief. No new class needed extra for martial artistic skills.
Anet just would have to add as need weapon to the thief polestakitten or in overall just simply the already existing staff weapons with just the difference, that their staff skilsl would be of physical relevance and not magic spells like all the scholar classes use them with stakitten .

Yes, having a pugilist type would be nice. Maybe a warrior variant similar to the elite skill Rampage but with a toggle and new animations (or same ones, its still fun beating things down with bare hands).

I’d suggest light armor for them, and a name other than “Monk”.
Give them a few weapons. Maybe: Sword, Dagger, Staff. Make the dagger the ranged weapon by having them throw daggers when they’re equipped. NO weapon swap.
Then, give them various “style” skills. Much like the Elementalist conjured weapons and the Engineer kits, they’ll replace the weapon skills with new ones, in this case unarmed attacks. Each style also adjusts your stats (like the conjured weapons do), making some styles more offensive and others more defensive. A solid mix of other skills that add to the martial arts feel of the class would round them out nicely.

Instead of Monk, they should bring back Ritualist type class with the ghost and stuff, those were awesome.

It’s just sad how people keep spamming this forum with this useless request. As mentioned by others, this game doesn’t need healers, Guardians do it more than fine.
If you can’t live without an AoE heal, remove that Renewed Focus Elite skill and get yourself a Tome of Courage—>press 5(Light of Deliverance)—→your team’s hp is fully restored.
Another chance, get yourselves a focus and click/press on 4 (Ray of Judgment) AoE heal again.
This game kind of doesn’t need to kick other professions out even more, and turn out to be a 4 zerk Warriors+1 Monk game.

pretty much this, though if you ask me Engineer should be a heavy profession and a new medium profession should be added (maybe even a samurai-like one, especially if the tengu become playable)

I’d like to see a diablo 3 kind of monk, the martial arts type because I love martial arts but… I don’t think that’ll happen. One can dream, right?
