I have been thinking about this suggestion a lot. One of the things that for me personally breaks immersion in this game is the weapons that fire on your character by some mystical means. Every time I do the gates of Arah the trebuchets firing with no entity firing them and then having to beat them up with my sword for me breaks immersion. It is not just this spot, they are littered thoughout the game. Every time I am knocked over or disabled by one It annoys me.
I know this is a fantasy game and being “realistic” is not feasible in most cases but to me the current design of these in-game items feels lazy and makes me groan with displeasure every time I am knocked over and feels frustrating rather than fun. Instead of “Aaaaeeeiiiiii, get those trebuchets down fast!” which is what I think you intended the response to be by players, for me it is “Oh kitten not again!” long sigh

Some possible solutions:-
1. If I kill the operator the cannon/trebuchet stops working. Just like it does in 3W and pvp. If there is no entity to fire the weapon it cannot fire.
2. Provide a meaningful way to break or damage them with explosives.
3. Jam something in the works.
4. Pour water on the gunpowder
5. Destroy the ammunition

There are just five things that I feel would be more “realistic” than hitting it with my equipped weapons. It would also solve the problem of sometimes getting “out of range” bugs when I am standing right next to the weapon.
I hope that this post does not come across as picky and trivial. Just my thoughts. I love the game and it is just one of the niggles that I feel could be much better.

I think of the trebuchets in Orr as being made of undead matter, animated purely by the will of Zhaitan. However, that doesn’t help when it comes to the centaur/bandit/ascalonian siege machinery.
