I have been a lover of Arenanet since the beginning. They gave me inspiration with Prophecies to write a book for crying out loud. That’s how epic I thought the story was. Watching all of the podcasts and reading every blog to pop-up on the internet made me anticipate Guild Wars 2 as my final MMO. Perhaps the final MMO I would play until I would be done with MMO’s. I went into GW2 thinking that I was on heaven’s doorstep, but then I realized I would have to wait a bit longer.
Arenanet, I understand that you are a small company and you have much on your plate right now, so maybe my suggestions can be backed up by my fellow players. This is what I have to say.
1. Your idea of quests was genius. Dynamic events was something that should have been made popular a long time ago! However, nothing evolves… I expected some battle would be happening in the corner of the world and no one would know about it. Before you’d even realize it, an army of two hundred centaurs would be at the gates of Divinities Reach. Holy crap! But that doesn’t seem to be the case… Your quests have become repetitive and predictable… Sure it gets a wi bit harder if the player size goes from 2 to 15, but there needs to be a game changer in your DE’s.
My idea: When a DE reaches a certain number of players, the AI change, not just in numbers, but also creature types, tactics, etc. Stop just spawning numerous amounts of… Stuff.
2. Make a dragon a dragon. My god when I first saw the trailer for GW2 and the sheer size of Zhaitan I quaked in my computer chair. How the hell could I even touch that? Why not make jump puzzles on dragons? They are so ginourmous that maybe people could hop up the spine to get to the hide and set a bomb on it. The jormag fight is fun, as is Tequatal, but I want the dragons to move. Fly around and gank from behind us, hop on a mountain and make us change our tactics. I want the dragon to know that he/she is powerful and I want them to take advantage of it.
3. The trinity and the skills. I love how you killed the trinity. I love being able to get a group going in less than 10 minutes. Good jarb. I think you should add some new skills though. I heard someone say that a battleaxe might be coming soon. Sounds great! Make more skills though. The combo idea was genius, but it’s going to be the same thing almost everytime. I love using swords. I like the idea of swords. But if I am just hacking a slashing I just get more bored the more I use it….
I am not bashing on Arenanet. Like I said, I have a high respect for them for their ideas, priorities, and dedication to a great game. I finished my book a few months ago and even a game like Guild Wars had changed how I think and create. All I want is to see you guys be the very best (insert pokemon theme song). I hope my ideas aren’t off putting or frantic. Great job on what you guys have so far!
