Q:
About to start my first character and...
Guardians have low base health and crap for ranged weapons but have more defense than an Abrams tank and can sustain themselves pretty well ( i also find them fun )
I dont have much good to say about the necro . They have the highest base health in the game but i personally find their skill set very lacking on all fronts .
Eles again have low base health no weapon swap either but make up for it with attunements giving them 20 skills instead of just 10 for their weapon set . Very versatile class and effective .
Alright, so then I am down to either Ele or Guardian…
Then your real question is do you prefer ranged or close combat .
I am usually open to either of them. I like the ele because it just seems so… flashy/good looking, it also seems relatively useful. I just don’t like it’s selection of weapons.
The guardian I know would be useful, however it seems too “classic” with the sword/shield and whatnot, so I feel as though I’d get bored after awhile. However I have yet to play the game so I can’t really say that for certain.
Personally I play a Sylvari Necromancer most of the time. I originally started out as a Norn Guardian but it just didn’t click with me like this necro did.
With my necro I’ve gone for a full condition damage / toughness build with runes of the undead to boost my condition damage and toughness further (with a 6 rune bonus of converting 5% of my toughness into condition damage). This basically makes me an unkillable death machine in most situations, I use a scepter / dagger weapon set primarily, with a staff as the secondary skillset.
And I have to say, nothing beats the feeling of getting 16 stacks of bleed and then throwing out an Epidemic (Necromancer utility skill) which then spreads every stack of every condition to all enemies in the radius. It’s lead to things like hexakills in sPvP and also I have probably the most consistent AoE damage its possible to have which has all kinds of applications when it comes to dynamic events, dungeons and especially farming.
I think the main thing that puts people off necros is the slow start, it doesn’t really get good until at least around lvl 30 or so and my build is especially level dependent because it relies a lot on those runes I have.
Necromancers are very versatile, they have great survivability and are a wonderful addition to any party. They can not only change all debuffs into buffs, but can transfer other peoples debuffs and such from others onto themselves, to heal.
