For some players, the achievements are a large part of the game.
I like the enhancements already made, such as tracking.
I want more.
I have often been awarded an achievement and not known what it was for.
Yes, a search will find it, but only if I remember what it was after I escaped the angry mob trying to kill me.
A “recent” section would help here. Also clicking on the “pop-up” should open the achievement window to the catagory the achievement is under. The inventory system does this already.
Achievement based mini-missions, in addition to the dailies. If you only have an hour to play, This might be a good goal to keep you entertained and give you a sense of accomplishment when you log off. The key word here is “mini.”
Another post mentioned passive rewards for reaching slayer levels. Rewards like this might be nice. Maybe if you kill 2000 bats you learn 2% evasion of bats or 1 percent damage to bats. This is not for mini-mission but long term dedication.
I feel like Anet created a game for a slightly different demographic than most other MMOs. The game stays away from the hardcore raiding which requires hours and hours of dedication to unlock the best parts of the game. By not doing this they allow the person that works, has a family, and other responsibilities to participate in almost all aspects of the game.
The achievement system is another way to keep Goal Oriented Gaming for those that can only logon for a few hours a week.
