Add Duels/Inspect People
I second this!
Inspecting needs to be in a game like this, It was a fun part of WoW to watch a person with some cool outfit, and go inspect him/her and get a desire to achieve that item.
Easy now on the inspection part. I don’t know if you’ve played any of the other MMOs, but one thing was sure… “Gear score” was always there in the end. No matter how skilled you said you were, the gear your character had always came in first priority. If your gear sucked, then you’d get kicked.
Do you really want that to enter into GW2?
Besides, if you want to share info about your gear, you can just link it. And if you want to know about the gear another person is wearing, you can simply ask. Trust me, it doesn’t hurt. And only few of them bite.
@ up “If your gear sucked, then you’d get kicked.”
First of all PvE so far doesnt require you to have tons of gear + everyone at 80 has either the 78 or 80 exotic gear that is easy to obtain.
The Inspect thing would work more for talent/skills/pvp kills/win/lose/etc/etc not only the gear factor.
Wow, the search function must be broken again. There are only 57 other threads on this subject….
Including the one on the front page.
Regardless, HELL no. Horrible idea.
I don’t care about /duel as long as it can be turned off and never seen by the person who turned it off.
As for inspecting me, my character is none of your business.
Back to the WoW that spawned you, begone!
Duels, hell yes Id love to see them in this game.
Inspect gear.. NO no no ! You obviously spent too much time in Dalaran…lol
Money can’t buy happiness, But it allows you to search in more places to find it !
I’m so tired of reading answers, where people complain that something from WoW will make GW2 worse (i.e. inspecting). Come on, people, be more open minded! It’s noting but a tool and a convenience. The fact that I can inspect my friend and see something cool there wouldn’t change the way this game is played. Furthermore, if I can’t do this – it’s simply a lack of channels of communication, because I can’t ask every person I see “where did you get this dagger”. So by saying “don’t add inspect option because it will make this game more wowish” you are doing yourself a bad favor by relinquishing a source of information.
I’m fine with duels as long as
- they are forbidden in cities and pvp
- we get an auto-deny option
- you don’t get any benefits through them
Inspect on the other side is a double-edged sword. It would be nice to know what gear your teamates are wearing or how exactly they are skilled, but this could end up like WoW, which would suck.
Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),
Bytestream (Engineer), Vim Whitespace (Thief)
I personally second this cause im kinda tired of people asking me where my gear and weapon came from I would prefer them to just inspect me.
On second not the whole gear score thing doesnt work in this game cause its level based and rare or exotic. Also the main thing about inspecting in wow for groups was to see if you had the Correct / gems / Enchants /refordge, This there is nothing like that in this game and any comp / stat setup works I dont see an issue.
I think all the people standing up saying they dont want people to inspect them are the people who dont want to work for their gear and want to get carried through instances and stuff while in 50 blues at level 80 and dont want to get denied being in a group because they not have not put the timer and effort into gear like most people.
Dueling in “roped off” areas is is fine…
inspect feature is not needed. If you want to know what someone is wearing try asking them!! crazy i know!
An example of this is people saying full exotic gear to get invited to a Exp ARAH farm group, when in fact they are full 50-60 Exotic geared and extremely under geared for the instance but think they can just walk in with no work.
Also another thing inspecting people does is it allows you to gauge if they know their class or not, if they have the right rune or stat setup so they have a simple grasp of how to play the game, Call me a elitest prick or what ever but I prefer to play with good players that pull their weight in instances and inspecting allows us to do this.

DUELS YES YES. Inspect: No. WOW Have amazing Features, A LOT. INSPECT.. is not one of these. Inspecting people will end with Gearscore, and gearscore will end, with people in chat asking for a number. That’s not ok.
@Kagrenac
I don’t agree with you, so I’m closed minded? Perhaps you are the one who’s being closed minded. I don’t need a bunch of elitist jerks telling me I’m undergeared, or wearing the wrong color underwear. Neither one of those things is ANYONE’s business but mine.
It’s not that I don’t want “Gearscore” (which is what you are asking for, regardless of what you call it) because it is in WoW. I don’t want it because of the attitudes it fosters.
My attitude (closed mindedness if you will) has been created by nosy, rude individuals who want to “inspect” me. I’m not in the military (anymore), and you are not my CO. Buzz off.

It saves us the time of making you link us yoru gear to see if your are able to run an instance or your not undergeared and want to be carried while we do all the work.

I disagree with your argument against Inspection. Yes, it definitely is the other players business -and right- to see your gear if you are looking for PvE, or anything else for that matter. If you are completely unprepared then they deserve to know and not figure it out when they have already invested 30 minutes into forming a run.
Gearscore was simply abused and had no relevance to whether not you were making correct gear choices or spec decisions. The PuGs that enforced GS rules weren’t ones you wanted to be in anyway, the likelihood of leader ninjaing and poor gameplay was way too high. If someone asks to inspect you, blows you off, and you are making correct gear choices, someone more capable and intelligent will be running in an hour and you won’t have wasted two in the aforementioned idiot’s group.
Anyway, from a personal standpoint, it’s fun to look around and see who has more awesome gear than you and e-drool over it.
Also, duels…. **** yes! I would really like to see some more avenues for individual player recognition. PvP systems that allow for small groups or individuals to display their skills in ways hat sets them apart from the rest of the player base. I know people may cry and say, “Oh, then Anet will have to go through the tedious, heinous, awful business that is profession balancing” cough WoW but, whatever… not everything is perfect.

I do think Duels would be fun, as other’s have said they would require you to be allowed to say “auto deny” if people could randomly duel you in the street or be in a separate part of “the mists” where you go just to duel. I’d like to duel some of my friends for fun.
Inspecting is fine, would be nice to see someone else’s gear as they run by but you don’t catch their name but it isn’t a big deal to me if we never see it.
I support both (Just no duels in the city please)
And as for inspect, we should have the option to hide our gear.

That defeats the purpose of inspecting.

Maybe but instead of forcing people to show their gears, it would be kind of a win-win situation..?
Imagine the scenario:
Anet: “We have just implemented an Inspect feature.”
Everyone in the game: /check Deny Inspection
Anet: “…” /facedesk
I support both (Just no duels in the city please)
And as for inspect, we should have the option to hide our gear.
Maybe not hide the gear, but hide what rune/type of gear it is, so players can see the name of the gear to find it without having the whole, oh you have the wrongs gems crap attitude. I play a necro and there are plenty of builds that lots of people say aren’t viable, and yet skilled players make them work. So yeah if you come geared and ready to go but get denied because you play a certain way and are gear for that way, being denied because your not “playing the class the way everyone else does” should not be punished.
As for duels, Keep them in the mists somewhere, the PvE world is hectic enough without having people run up to you and typing /duel all the time.
Just my 2 cents on the matter, take it or leave it.
gearscore was the best addon ever created in wow, it was great made people do the previous tier raids before go to the last tier raids, saddly gw2 doesnt have pve so i dont think inspect is needed

Lolwhat?
No inspections. The content is not difficult enough to justify excluding others from your PUGs because you don’t like their build.
i agree totally with the duels, as itll help with practice for guild groups, and just generally having fun, but “it’s a right” to inspect someone, HELL NO, if you’re asking to join someone, in say a dungeon and they ask instead of just look at my gear (which is good) i’d link it ofc. but having them say it’ their right to just look and judge my gear is not right. so i say no to the inspect.
you want to know my gear… ask me and stop being a wimp.
