People who can’t tend to call the opponent troll, scream something utterly incomprehensible
and finally result to personal insults.
Okey, lets see…
After reading the umpteenth thread which involved someone saying “WoW” and the thread turning into a “go back to WoW” “Shutup GW fanboi” styled insulting, I started thinking that it would be fun to see this word censored.
Not because WoW would be bad game (I just don’t like it) or that people would advertise it here (lol), but merely because so many good threads go down the gutter the moment someone throws a WoW comparison or uses it as an argument. (Those comparisons/arguments usually have little value anyways.)
People are always going to compare games there is no getting around it.
Besides, we can’t just ban every word that might start a flamewar.
Wow! Don’t you think you are exaggeration?
What would people use as an expression of amazement isntead?
Wah?
Whoa?
Woah? (this is ‘whoa’ mispelled)
Whoo?
Wowee?
Woot?
woohoo?
It’s just not the same as ‘wow’.
It would be bad PR for arena.net to ban words relating to other games.
Well, I guess I’m not being entirely serious, though it wouldn’t hurt to see this happen.
And there aren’t too many words that “might” start a flamewar, I’ve so far just seen one that in most cases will.
Oh wow (as in expressing awe, surprise), how original. Let’s pretend the best MMO (with a subscription) does not exist.
So please tell me, for those who display that typical WoW hate, where does it come from? Your social skills got you banned from WoW? Did you feel you were not getting enoug attention from the people on your server? Could it be that the chick on your guild’s mumble or vent channel turned you down? Or maybe WoW just had sex with your sister and insulted your mom? Honestly I can’t understand where that dumb hate comes from.
But here’s some food for the thought – That game stayed on top for so many years for many reasons and it’s good to remember these reasons and debate them, unless you wanna see GW2 go down like EA’s MMOs (warhammer online and TOR ).
Would be nice, were it possible. Tired of seeing it.
You could just ignore the forums… =/
It’s the reasoon I have always refused to even try THAT game, because it has poisoned the whole MMO world, every single game out there eventually is compared to it, and I am quite sick of hearing about it. And tired of everyone complaining about clones then turning around and wanting features of it in other games.
Every single time I see it mentioned, I cringe.
Of course this thread is tongue in cheek, but seriously, people.
I blame one game for the homogonizing of the entire industry. A company tries to be a little different (rarely) and they get innundated with rage from players who don’t want different. Oh yeah, they do want something different.. Wait.. no, not really.. errrr….
I use the word “wow” a lot and not in reference to a game.
I’m with the OP on this one. But what word to pick? “Kitten” is a brilliant substitute for profanity, so it needs to be a good one.
How about “spastic”? So we would see, probably again and again:
edited: “areas” → “arenas”. Sometimes spell check won’t save you.. :-(
