I now have an equipped and soulbound mighty infused ascended ring on a character and another identical ascended ring that is also soulbound to the same character but it is useless because you cannot equip more than one kind of ascended gear (can’t have two ascended rings or two ascended accessories).

I found this out the hard way because there is no warning whatsoever in game that tells you this. I bought one ring, infused it, and equipped it and did not learn the true meaning of “unique” until I bought, infused, and tried to equip the second. I wasted forty laurels (forty daily achievements) because this information is not availabe in game. I only found out after looking on the wiki. In my alarmed naïveté, I actually made the mistake of filing a bug report which I’m sure will go ignored.

Every other MMO I’ve played that will only let you equip one particular item per character has made that clear in the item screen for that particular item and I really wish Guild Wars 2 would do the same. As silly as it may sound, it really was heartbreaking to find out I had wasted so many hours worth of gameplay and now all I have is an unusable item that I can vendor trash for 4 silver and 95 copper. Somehow, the fact that it’s not even woth 5 silver makes it all the more heartbreaking.

Arggg!
I saved and saved to get the 35 laurels I needed to buy a “Ring of Red Death”.

Then I saved and saved to get the 35 laurels I needed to buy a 2nd “Ring of Red Death”.

Then I discovered that I cannot equip both rings at the same time!
In the process of swapping my old inferior ring out and swapping the 2nd ring in, the ring is now soulbound, which means that I can’t give it to another char.
And I cannot return it to the Laurel Vendor, as it is only worth 4s 95c !

This ‘bug’ either needs to be fixed, or there needs to be a way to return the item for the original laurels, or a warning message needs to be displayed, or some combination of all of these.

A player is allowed to equip 2 of the same Accessory item.
A player is allowed to equip 2 of the same Ring (from the Heart Vendors).
So why can’t a player equip 2 of the same Ring (I don’t know if this applies to Accessory or other types of equipment) from a Laurel Vendor?

This is inconsistent.
This is frustrating and infuriating.

It would be nice if a warning came with the purchase, but it comes down to buyer beware. Lots of other MMO’s have unique rings and such that can only be equipped once per character.

The problem is that people don’t read warnings. No matter how big you make them, or how many times you need to click them away.

I’m sorry of your loss, but you where stupid. Don’t blame that on the game. The term ‘Unique’ is clear enough.

If in an item’s description is something I don’t udnerstand (and it is of significant value). I would always type: /wiki unique to find out more bout this.

I know it feels harsh and cruel, but best place to direct it is at yourself.

What part of unique did you not understand?

Unique means literally only one exists. So if 2 people have the same thing then it is no longer unique, merely rare. If hundreds of people have it then its not even rare. So, when a game redefines unique to no longer mean ‘only one in existence’ but changes the meaning to ‘only one can be worn’ then they should tell you what the redefined meaning is.

People may say you should wiki it, but why should anyone need or even think of wikiing the meaning of common words with an understood meaning on the off chance that the game redefined the meaning.

Unique here could have easily meant, no other has those stats exactly, but you could wear more than one. Which is what most people are likely to think and why they wouldn’t think to wiki it. You only wiki something where you are unsure of the meaning, not because you think the game may redefine the meaning of a common word.
