Add *something* to Lyns
I don’t know what to tell you on this one. They very clearly announced that the keys weren’t coming back well before she was re-implemented. They also made it abundantly clear that Lyns has an expiration date. Given that information, why would you expect that she’d carry some kind of new item?
While I’m certainly not happy about ANet’s decision to remove Lyns from the game, I don’t feel scammed just because they put in some new type of gathering tools. I for one don’t want to spend a week’s worth of laurels on gathering tools when I could be building up towards an amulet.
TL;DR: ANet did exactly what they said they were going to do on this one. I don’t see a problem here.
They didn’t announce it until after I bought these commendations. And I shouldn’t need to scan the forum to see if they are going to remove things from vendors before I buy. Most players don’t visit the forums.
I expected new items because they said she was restocking her goods. Since hearing keys were gone, I thought since they took away the item that a lot of people bought commendations for, they would replace it with something not in the gem store. That way they could still make their money but not leave so many of us shafted.
Seriously what am I supposed to do with 60 Sturdy Axes? Can I have a free bank tab to hold them?
Please add something new to the store as a gesture of respect for non-exploiting players.
Since ANet uses these forums as the primary method of disseminating information, I don’t know how far the “I don’t need to read the forums” argument goes. ANet’s made it abundantly clear that the forums are where information gets posted. If you’re not checking up on it, that’s on you.
I’m not sure how you heard about the removal of keys and somehow went away with the impression that something new would be added. They were very clear about the fact that the only change would be the removal of keys. The only reason Lyns is in for the next month at all is to allow players, like you, to liquidate your commendations.
The gesture of respect is that she’s back in at all. They could have easily shut her down entirely and just added a low coin value to CCC’s. Buy a bunch of sturdy tools and enjoy several months of not paying to gather.
By that reasoning, most players deserve to lose out because they aren’t coming to the forum to check to see if anything is about to be removed. That’s not reasonable to expect of players.
We were given the impression that Lyns would be there the whole time, restocked. There was no impression then that anythign would be removed. Speculation for the reason was that Anet didn’t want people to lose Wintersday key sales because of Lyns.
And I have nothing to liquidate more than a couple hundred commendations on. The rest are wasted. And “not paying to gather”? No, I already did pay. Possibly more than the regular gathering tools. This wasn’t a gesture of respect. It’s a heavy-handed way to deal with exploiters that leaves the rest of us at a loss. I feel like they don’t care about the people who don’t cheat.

I ignored your claim that “most players don’t use the forums” the first time, because it was unfounded and silly. That’s too sweeping a proclamation to make without backing it up with some kind of evidence. I already know you have no kind of empirical data which could back up that assertion.
ANet has never made it unclear that the forums are where they put information about upcoming changes. To claim that you weren’t privy to upcoming changes because you didn’t go the forums is like complaining that you were unaware of a major news story, and it’s unreasonable to expect that you would have opened a newspaper, turned on a radio or TV, or visited a news website.
If you make the conscious decision to opt out of the information stream, that’s on you.

Immediately during Wintersday, that’s true. When she was disabled upon launch of the Wintersday update, the ANet forum posts indicated that she would return after the event and didn’t mention removal of items. There’s just one problem…
That information was disseminated via the forums!
You obviously went to the forums to learn about why Lyns had been disabled and when she’d be back. The only in-game message was “That content has been temporarily disabled.”
After she was not returned to functionality when the Wintersday content was taken down, further ANet posts on the subject made it abundantly clear that keys were nto coming back. The only problem here is that you obtained some information from the forums and somehow expected the rest of it to be hand-delivered to you.

If you don’t feel that you can use the commendations on anything in Lyns’s current inventory, that’s unfortunate, but it’s on you. By your own admission, the only thing you want from Lyns is keys. You’re calling the people who bought keys from Lyns exploiters. That makes you, by your own statements, an exploiter.
Heavy-handed would be banning everyone who bought keys from Lyns, a la the snowflake situation. ANet is giving everyone with commendations a chance to exchange those in a way that isn’t detrimental to the game’s economy.
If ANet truly didn’t care at all about the players who didn’t use Lyns exclusively for keys, she would be gone altogether.
Also, if you asked ingame, most people would warn you that she’s not going to sell those keys anymore.
That felt like a cross-examination. If you ignore most of what I wrote because I have no evidence (and it’s impossible to get evidence), I am going to ignore what you said without evidence, which is most of it.
I will say that “by your own admission, the only thing you want from Lyns is keys”, is impossible because I bought one of every tool for an alt, plus multiple ori tools and salvage kits. I bought 9 keys before she was removed. Most of those tools have run out and I refilled now. But I can’t use more than a couple hundred comms on them, and the rest are wasted because there’s nothing else in the store I can use.
I don’t appreciate being called an exploiter.
I didn’t make a post in the suggestions topic to go to court and argue with someone. I’m not twisting your words, please don’t twist mine.
I am making a suggestion. If you have a different suggestion, go ahead and make another thread.

I’ve only ignored your baseless assertion that “most players don’t visit the forums.” I’ve refuted the rest.

You’ve stated that her current inventory, which consists of tools, salvage kits, and weapons is unacceptable to you. By process of elimination, the only thing left that she previously carried are BLKs. You complained that you’re being punished because people bought keys from her, but you also state that the only things you want to buy from her at this time are keys.
Applying your own logic to the snowflake exploit, if a player broke down the trinkets for ecto generation several times, but also equipped a trinket for personal use, that player would not have been exploiting. Good luck with that.

I am refuting the necessity of your suggestion. The purpose of an open forum is to allow community discussion on topics, not to have people demand changes with no further discussion. If you’re unwilling to have your suggestions criticized, go ahead and stop making threads.
While I understand that the request seems over the top, the way Lyns has been handled is in no way fair to the average player.
IIRC, ANet only made the announcement that Lyns would not have the keys approximately a month after she was disabled. A month is a long time for players to assume anything (whether she would or would not have the keys) and the sudden disabling in the first place left many players with unused commendations that had been intended for Lyns’s BL Keys. Whether or not the keys were an exploit is debatable. In any case, ANet once again put something in-game that they didn’t fully think through first, dangled a carrot, and in this case, many of us are stuck with a currency that has much less value now than when we invested (legitimately) in the first place.
One way or another, the OP’s valid point is that Lyns’s current inventory has very little value for anyone with large quantities of commendations, assuming they have no use for the weapons. Requesting additional options is hardly inappropriate, despite the low chance that the request will see any results.
I also think the assertion that a relatively low portion of the player base uses the forums is accurate, although no one’s going to be able to prove it one way or another. I think posting announcements such as this as part of the client launcher would be a much more reliable way of disseminating information. But, I suppose that’s an entirely different topic of discussion than what the OP intended for this thread.
Thanks, Vick.
I’m not going to even read the hostile person’s responses anymore. It doesn’t do me any good, and I don’t feel respect or good intentions coming from it.
After Lyns was disabled, I put enough items into commendations to get future tools, kits, and however many keys or new items I could get with the rest, giving up a lot of bank spaces while waiting. I didn’t expect it to take until Jan 28th for her to return.
When I heard keys were likely going to be removed or have the price raised, I wasn’t thrilled. I don’t really use BL chest items, i just hoard boosters on an alt, but it’s fun to open them. But I figured I would still be able to use my comms up on higher-priced keys or some new merchandise.
I feel slightly wronged in how it was handled. It’s good that the people who exploited snowflakes are having some of their unfairly gained wealth mitigated, but it is also punishing the average player who didn’t even know about snowflakes. I’m losing probably 5g worth of equipment thrown in the forge because of this change, without doing anything wrong. The moldy bag drop goof caused more damage than the a rough implementation of my suggestion would.
They could find some material that is in short supply and let us trade comms for that. Or convert it to karma or guild influence. There are lots of things that could be added to dispose of commendations that don’t break the game. And limits could be put in place to prevent those who have ill-gotten tens of thousands of commendations from being rewarded.
Edit: I have just seen the crafting starter kits in the Laurel store. “One time account purchase”. If they can limit the number of purchases, they could do that to keys to solve this problem. Regular players don’t get wronged, exploiters get minimal return on their investments.
