Additions to armor hide
Shoulders: Sure.
Chest: No. Not because I’m prude, but because the levels of abuse just wouldn’t be funny anymore, and in fact gamebreaking. That, and people rely on armour visually to identify the profession of players. Instead, I’d very much support armour that shows a decent portion of the chest much like GW1’s ritualist armour sets.
Unfortunately the armor artists have all vanished or something, because only 3 sets have been added since release. A quicker fix is to be able to hide the chest. Not that I particularly care about it, but I’ve always liked the look of a bare chested character with shoulders and gloves. This is mainly for people who want a more rugged look or who hate the 100% trench coats on leather. There are no revealing leather chests on males making norn tattoos moot zing!
Anywho, back to the shoulders, I love the sorrows embrace light cone thing, but hate the castle wall. I’d love to just sport the single shoulder.
Oh! Actually I deleted my male norn mesmer because I couldn’t hide my chest armor/ no chest armor revealed his tattoos. The most revealing was one of the norn cultural armors and it barely showed anything.
I very much agree with the norn tattoo comment Henge. I very much like all the choices you can have, but if you make a thief or ranger you’re guaranteed to have 1 or 2 choices that actually show the tats. It’s a real shame.
I understand the frustration. Charrs and sylvari have the same problem. Charrs don’t get to see their amazing fur patterns, and sylvari never get to show off their wonderful colourful skin. But I don’t think hiding the chestpiece is the right way to solve the problem. It’s a dirty fix that has a lot of drawbacks attached to it. New armour that allows players to show off would be a much more appropriate fix.
Indeed it would be I read a little of your other posts for new armors, which I agree with. I mean, even an open chest trench coat style I would accept for male characters, females for the same armor could get a corset underneath (Like the krytan)
For heavy armor on my charr, I have my normal survival set that looks pretty beefy and plates, then I recently put together a DPS set and used the “named” chest armor, which is the 2 belts across the chest, to reflect that I have no survivability with that set on.
I believe the best and most profitable solution for them would be to release all of the gw1 armors in the gem store. They could do it in installments. I loved a lot of those looks (minus ranger)
The reasoning for this would be that
1: they don’t have to think of new armors
2: it makes them a ton of money
3: it wouldn’t take that much effort to do. Just make them higher quality and to fit the new races.
I’m not paying real money to use armour from a game I’ve already paid for already.
then dont? it was a suggestion. You could always convert gold to gems.
Or, Anet could add some additional armours over time to the base game. What bothers me is the ease at which people come out and say “take my money!” over what should be basic features and it’s a mentality that needs to stop – we’ve already got paid-for dance emotes because a handful of people were begging to pay for them.
True story. I would really love them to add the armors in that you can earn via dungeon or karma, or something in game besides gems.

This I can agree with!
