Anyone think if this is possible to have in GW2? if there is an air combat system fighting zhaitan and other dragons would and can be much much more interactive what do you think?

… Actually, I was about to be all against it for a second just because of the slight lack of viability, but there’s more potential to it than my initial skim warranted.

We do have airships, and those seem to be a pretty decent part of some combat down in Orr – even though we don’t much get to participate in that specific aspect. That’d be more like a moving platform with siege weapons though (re: ICC lootship), but thinking a little deeper into it… If they do give us material for an individually-manned airborne what-have-you, be it a flying animal or fancy aeronautics, -that- could actually be an interesting fusion between water combat dimensions in a vehicular/mounted combat application.

Which, of course, means vehicle/mount combat should also be done on the ground to keep it balanced.

It’s obscure and unlikely, but I’m going to +1 this at least because it sounds like it could be fun, and the devs should hear it. Maybe be inspired by it!

excellent suggestion! So far from what I was expecting from the thread title. But it does raise a few questions:

Hogger’s by the charr could certainly be a ground option. The hard part would be explaining the tethering. What keeps you from “stealing” an airship/hogger from an event to take somewhere else and kill normal mobs? Small gas tanks so you can only be in the air for 2 minutes at a time?

How do you make it work rendering wise?
Sometimes the game freaks out as is with shatterer/jormag/tequatl let alone if there’s more stuff on the screen.

would be rly hard to balance. how about a siege weapon airship that needs 1,000+ supply and drops omega siege golems that you can build at your base. hahaha

I agree that this can also tone down the OPness of mesmers portal as well in wvwvw. Hell it would also bring a lot more tactics too, + 1

Eh… Maybe in an expansion.

Air combat is basically Underwater combat without the water.
This will not be released any time soon however, because all PvE and WvW contain are balanced around there being no flying, wall-walking, or any other such craziness.

If air combat were ever introduced, it would be in a completely new map, where all content is built around it or designed with ‘flying’ in-mind. Like “GW2: In Space!”

And I think we would all appreciate an updated battle against Zhaitan. That story ending was very disappointing.

It could by-pass JP similar to Mesmer portals now, so, that would be a consideration. But apart from JP’s and as Dream pointed out, WvW and PvP that is specifically built to “try” and prevent you breaching a wall without pounding it to dust first, I don’t see why it is not doable.

Agree on Zhaitan.

and yes the battle zs Zhaitan was so Anti Climatic…shooting him while he’s just hanging around…although I had originaly expected it to be on some open world map with 50+ people there so when I was like it’s a 5 man dungeon I was like .…not as epic as I thought…although it seems it would have to be in a instance but redone for up to 30+ to enter that dungeon (insert other viable options here)

Perhaps as we had guild halls in gw1, we could have guild airships this time round. Id love the idea of a mobile ‘town’ for guilds, would be nice for players in pve, to have an airship perhaps docked over a location or town. PvP guild battles could be airship fights, after all for gvg in guildwars1 you fought in the hall you chose, boarding actions could make for some intense platforming playervplayer ingenuity.

wow I didn’t even thought of mobile bases and flying towns etc, nice add ~ This would make the world feel more ;world like xD instead of just on the ground. There must have some kinda of docking in order to land though, or else people would just fly to where the vista’s are or cheat in a jumping puzzle.
