All about skills
I personally think that in time, they were going to add more weapon skills so you could be more customizable anyway. But i personally don’t care either way:P
I think the system they’ve put in place has great potential. This is something I would strongly suggest because it adds variability and customization to a class and to one’s play-style. Not only that, I think this is necessary because it’s very easy to become tired of the same 5 weapon skills. With the current traits system, you have to totally build your character towards one weapon/stats combo for peak effectiveness (generally). This means hours of using the same spells and spell combinations and that can become dull.
I understand there is a significant amount of work needed then for many new animations and class balancing, but this is the logical improvement to the system.
I’d like to see a pool of choices for each weapon and the ability to freely arrange the 5 skills of my choice. If someone wants to put a lot of hard-hitting damage spells on his or her bar instead of having a balanced array of abilities, or would instead like to build a character that has extra-defense but a lower damage output, that should be possible. I think it’s best to allow players to play their class they way they like, not in accordance to the rigid class and weapon mechanics that might not totally make a player happy. That makes the game diverse and interesting and makes players really care about their characters and the time they invest in building that character as well.
+1
It would be nice to add a little customization to each weapon, but I could see it being a nightmare from a balancing perspective. Additionally, you run the risk of making a lot of “filler” skills that are subpar. In the original Guild Wars, there were a lot of skill that just never saw any use because there were so many skills to choose from.
A few extra skills to switch out for each weapon would be nice, but I wouldn’t have a whole slew of them.
