Allow Players to choose Dungeon Level
To what end? What exactly do you gain by being 80 that you lose by being a lower level even though you’re actually 80?

Experience in learning how the dungeon works without dying 1000 deaths! It would allow people to run the dungeon in “easier mode” if you like if they only want to do it for a bit of fun and exploration and don’t really care too much about getting the highest rewards all the time.
I know lots of people who would like to do dungeons but have heard they’re very hard and have been discouraged from trying them, even in story mode. This would encourage everyone to do them, young and old and btw, if you’re lvl 80 and don’t want to do lower levels then don’t! Do the lvl 80 tier instead.
Do you realise how much work this would be for a dev to scale let’s say even 1 instance? 35 to 80 thats 45 different dungeons basically, yes the framework is there but each mob would have to be scaled. Now multiply that by each of the paths. Then multiple it by how many other dungeons.
Fractals has this. Do level 1 fractals to your heart’s content and you learn the whole thing, then do higher levels and the rewards scale up.
There’s no reason to fiddle with the old content to better gate it for the bads. There should be no “easy” Arah. And if you could easily survive subject alpha’s AoE, noobs would never learn how to do it right.

I don’t know how much work it would take but, Lotro had this type of scaling system for instanced areas such as dungeons or skirmishes. It was a great option to have actually.
I’m sure there’s a way to do this. I don’t think they would have to manually scale every lvl like that, but then again I’m not game dev so don’t know for sure. Just figured if other games are able to accomplish this, don’t see why anet couldn’t. I would have thought downscaling/upscaling players was a much bigger job, but they did it.
That’s an interesting idea. I mean, if you think about it, because you’re scaled down to whatever level the zone is it isn’t going to make a huge difference, just arbitrarily larger numbers both ways.
But, since loot dropped is based both on your real level and the level of the mobs I find I tend to get nothing but trash in dungeons, with a bit of one particular tier of crafting mat thrown in. If I could choose from maybe not every level but maybe every 10th level, I could at least pick a tier of crafting mat to get (I assume I’d still get trash drops regardless). Would be useful if it could be done.
And Catisa, really the only thing that it would need to do is scale the mobs up to whatever level you picked, and as you said, they already have that framework in place, just maybe not attached to the dungeon in particular.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Well ur suggestion doing lvl 1 Fractals over and over isn’t exactly what i’m proposing. All dungeons should be available for this not just 1 part of 1 dungeon.
Saying, ‘fiddling with old content for the bads’, implies that people who would want this are bad players and it sounds a bit condescending actually. They may be as good as anyone, but just want to see what it’s like and maybe learn, but since most people don’t want to run dungeons with newbies and some of these places are very hard, they will never experience it and that’s a shame really.
All I can see is this making it harder than it already is to get into dungeons then it already is outside of level 80.
Lvl 1 fractals aren’t just “1 part” of the fractals, they can encompass all the fractal types except solid ocean which appears at fracals lvl 2.
The only dungeon I haven’t done multiple times is Arah, and I have yet to see any groups turn away a level 80 that’s willing to pay attention and try. I don’t know how anyone can be always locked out of experiencing it just ‘cuz they’re “new” at it.
If you’re trying to do AC or CM on-level, sometimes groups don’t want to take the newbs, and that’s a small shame if you don’t have a guild that’s willing to do so, but it really doesn’t take long to level to 80, and when you’re 80 there’s honestly not much to do except grind, do dungeons and fracs, and WvW anyway so do it then. Newbs are really a small section of the playerbase and it doesn’t make sense for Anet to re-gate all the content to work for them for the small period between whatever level they are and the inevitable moment when they’re 80.

Why? I actually think it would do the opposite. There are lots of players out there who would like to try a dungeon, but can’t get into a group or form one, either due to lack of confidence or no one wanting to give them a go because they’re wrong lvl or whatever.
This way anyone can form whatever lvl group they want and give it a try. If some choose a lowest level for eg and the dungeon lvl gap and their true lvl is too large they could maybe do it wit 4 instead of 5 ppl etc.
Also, there could be a lvl cut off. In the upward direction, if u try to to do much higher lvl than your actual char lvl (so as to stop suicide jokeys lol), they may not enter the dungeon unless they’re within say 3-5 lvls or something like that.
Going downward, there’s no cut off but, if u go below certain lvl you get no rewards or exp or anything, but you can still experience the place. I know people who just want to do it for exploration achievement purposes and don’t really care about the dungeon rewards.

Well I think ur assuming that gw2 isn’t getting new players on ongoing basis. As long as this game is running there will always be newbies in the game, not to mention those people who play the game casually and it takes them a long time to get to lvl 80.

Because after the initial week people will only want to do the most rewarding versions which means that anyone that isn’t level 80 would have to hope a group of people there own level is doing it or such.
Currently as long as your at the dungeon level or higher you can team and do it with anyone from that level or higher, and you all get rewarded appropriately for what you do, I see nothing wrong with that system.
Granted level 80’s have an advantage of better stats from higher quality gear but with the scaling down your not that much more powerful so the challenge is the same as if you scaled it up.
