Right now you can’t get all 3 orders armors, so please change this. Reasoning and of course story below.
So a week ago I beat my personal story on vigil and I thought that was it. Then today I learned that each order gets a special armor vendor you can use. If you didn’t know that, now you do. On top of that the gear is soulbound on acquire and you can never get the armor for the other 2 orders on your character if you’re thinking alts. The personal story just doesn’t add up either since we were all one team.
We join a “pact” together, put aside our differences, thousands of lives lost on each side, all working together to stop and kill Zhaitan. After all that the other two orders don’t want to talk to me. wtf. Thanks for helping and saving the world but never talk to us again.
I can’t even do anything to possibly change this (start over the story or do missions to gain their friendship) and now I feel screwed out because there wasn’t a place that said “you can only get certain armor skins if you join this order”. Only thing was that your decision was final but I figured I’d do the other 2 orders on my alt when I got around to it. I wouldn’t have selected vigil if I knew the only way to get the whispers armor was selecting them at level ~30 personal story. So allow us in some way get the other armor sets on our characters.

Actually, my friend was able to get a priory greatsword when he was part of the vigil. What he did was, on another character, he joined the priory and bought the greatsword. He transmuted the priory greatsword to a WHITE greatsword item. He then was able to place that transmuted greatsword in his bank. And then he was able to go on his main character and use the level 80 transmute item on the greatsword item from his bank to his main greatsword weapon.
So, I can’t say for certain but I feel like the same logic should apply to armor.

I thought when you use a stone it gets soulbound so not sure how he would have done this. Maybe it doesn’t soulbound on white items?

yes that’s exactly what happened.

Weapons you can get , but no armour sadly
I personally think soulbound weapons are lame anyway. Armor I can understand, but still, once you wear it you will never sell it to another person, nor can I give it to a good friend to use.
If I want more armors/weps to wear and I am unable to sell all my old ones, where am I going to put them?
Buy more space with gems ? ! -sigh- Not everyone is great at making gold. Specially not when everyone forgets to add the TP fee to the value of the items they sell, so everything is underpriced and I cant make money that way -.-
If I knew staying true to what my character would do would deny me access to how I wanted my character to actually look, I would have discarded any roleplay aspect the personal story had to offer in favor of picking the the styles I would ultimately want.
Going with the roleplay ended up punishing me by keeping me from styles that are available in game. I agree with the OP 100%. As a hero of Kryta, my character needs access to standard issue gear given by the alliance of orders.

I’m in favour of, upon completion of the personal story, opening up the other order’s armour vendors. This could perhaps be done through a “Pact Requisitions Officer” with the gear being higher level or more expensive if it comes from a different faction (money sink! eh? eh?). I’d probably be willing to pay close to the equivalent of T3 cultural armour to access the other Orders’ armours
My story is that I was questing with 2 friends and wasn’t paying close enough attention to realise we’d reached the quest where you pick the Order you wish to align to. They were both going Whispers and I wanted to go Priory but instinctively hit the “progress” button at the end of the Personal Story mission we were on, thereby forever locking myself into the Order of Whispers.
Now I would actually prefer to be aligned with the Vigil as I would really love to pick up some of the armour, which I’ve been previewing in the PvP Locker. PvP toons can mix and match the Order armours as much as they like, so why shouldn’t a PvE character?
It reminds me of the oppositional Factions in Guild Wars (Kurzick and Luxon) where a Luxon aligned player could easily acquire and wear Kurzick armour. I don’t understand why this is this different for 3 allied factions in GW2?

Now I’m actually interested to see if the Transmutation Stone trick works for the armour as well, if so then I suppose that’s a “reasonable” work-around
Yeah the transmutation stone works for armors too. I suspect they did this to provide a means of keeping favorite skins when you delete old toons. You can not trade the transmuted item to another player but can transfer it to another toon on your own account. It also works for cultural armors and will show the icon for the transmuted skin but when you put it on as toon from another culture it will show the armor appropriate for the toon wearing it rather than the culture the armor came from. So you can put charr shoes on a human but they will just look like human shoes. This also works for karma items so if your main has more karma than you know what to do with you can buy a karma item and transmute it for another toon. Again, I suspect this was intended as it gives a use for excess Karma on your main and the only karma items that this did not work for (recipes) have now been made account bound.

Okay.. I did this…. on my charr warrior that was originally a Vigil member… Made an asura necromancer… boosted it up through the mission til the 30’s and till it had access to the armor set… bought it the entire heavy stuff… threw out 6 perfect transmute stone added that on some weird blue heavy stuff that was reasonable cheap… (ofc it says soulsbound once you do that, BUT DO NOT BELIEVE IT) now then I went over to my warrior withdraw another 6 perfect transmute stone and did that heavy skin over my awefull looking armor… and tada my originally charr warrior that is from the vigil has now full heavy set of the whisper…

We were discussing this on the “Relics of Orr: Podcast” and Coehl brought up that this might be considered as an exploit.
I hope our initial thoughts of this being an intentional “omission” to allow players to acquire armour and weapons from other Orders is correct, but would love to hear confirmation from Anet.

I am about to do the same trick to get the Whisper’s hood for my thief…
Can we have an answer from Anet about this ?
