Allow us to wear previously equipped styles
Found this video showing off the feature in DC Universe Online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdTYZPl4jDA
You can show off both currently, you just use two transmutation stones.
Darn stupid phone posting things before I want it to! Anyways… as I was saying. I do think some better way to ‘store’ these skins would be good though but still requiring the stones to place them onto your current gear.
I agree with this. Transmutation stones are too much of a hassle, especially while levelling up, going through constant upgrades. I wonder how they’re selling though. If people are buying them, there’s not much hope they’ll change it.
The thing I have against the stones is that if you want to have 3 different styles, you have to keep those pieces of gear somewhere to transmute later. That would be 12 slots of inventory space (2 * 6 slots, minus what you are wearing) just to keep a style around.
Or they could require the stones to add the armor to your style tab? Or transmute a look from your style tab to your gear. Then you don’t need to keep the physical armor around anymore plus the stones are still required.
I would simply just prefer an Appearance tab that is dedicated for looks alone and then your equipment tab, which exists now, handles the stats. But it seems transmutation stones were implemented for the microtransaction factor which I do not quite approve of – it works and as a player you can get them from your check-lists but they only work up to level 79.
Well if they could include what drizel is suggesting, then i believe that would make it good for everyone- wouldnt let you change gear all the time, but when you have the required stones, you could swap. Transmutation stones would become a kind of currency for switching styles (that you’ve unlocked, of course)
kept posting this on the BWE, I would love it if anet would do this or at least improve upon the town clothes/transmutation stones system because right now it is much to limiting.
I love the dye system. It’s a great innovation that I would love to see carried over to armor.
One way to do it would be to have rare permanent transmutation stones that put armor styles into a transmutation menu like the dyes. Then transmutation stones could be used to apply those styles to equipped armor.
The motivation I can see to do dungeons is to collect interesting armor sets; however, I’m not sure how I would store or even put to use multiple sets given limited storage and destruction upon transmutation.
way’s to monetize this system (this was the main augment against the idea I came up against):
New uses for transmutation stone
- To remove stats from items i.e. make the into ‘town clothes/costumes’
- to change between types – light,mid,heavy – link
- to add stats to a item (copied from another)(?)
Sell additional costumes slots in the gem store
- everyone starts with one but can buy more
-they can still sell costumes in the gem store
other changes
Rename town clothes to costumes
An inspect to shown the players true gear
Restrictions on use
Cannot use in PvP or WvW
Armor skins are Guild Wars’ way of proving ‘elitism’ without screwing over others out of decent stuff. And now we have trans stones where we get best of both worlds – you don’t need to spend a RL dime on them. You get them from completing stuff in game.
The reason the system is the way it is now is because they need to make money. There is no monthly subscription fee. It has to be this way or the game will make no money, and henceforth shut down.
I asked for a stone to give us the look of other gear archetypes (medium can use graphics fom light or heavy etc…) and I would be willing to pay for it. That is a much more realistic request because it makes them money, where as your request loses them money.
So with that being said, I think your suggestion will not happen to be honest.

PS
You can buy more bank slots with gems. You know, to keep all those extra cosmetic gear slots you got laying around. Oh wait… that makes them money also… See a pattern here?
Just made a similar suggestion, only just seen this one.

I’m not saying you are wrong (because I don’t know myself) but I believe that they’d gain money from this system. Currently, I only have motivation to get one style. Sure, it’s a long grind, but after I get the style I want, what is pushing me to get another one? Why should I get another dungeon set if I got the best dungeon set out there?
This could be remedied by making me able to wear several sets (that I earn) whenever I wish. Not only that, but they’d be able to sell gearsets on the Gem store for cash. They could as well limit the amount of styles you can carry- if you want more styles, pay up.
Considering that cosmetics are the money sink of the endgame I’m surprised they let dyes off the hook.

They could gain the same or probably even more money with what drizel suggested. There are definitely going to be more people who are constantly changing their appearances simply because they can and it’s easy.
They would still be selling transmutation stones so there is no lost of income. Maybe a separate transmutation stone for the one that can use your “collected” skins.
