Allow utility skills in slot #10?
If they did this, elite skills would never be used…at least by players who understand the combat system and how it works…
Its no brainer choosing between a skill with a 40 sec cooldown and a 120+ sec cooldown…
If they allowed it thou, I would like the healing slot to be opened up as well to allow any skill there…
I agree it’s often the case in this game you have to pick the least worst elite, but not all classes suffer this fate – eg thief and mesmer have all good elites. These classes would still benefit greatly by having the option to build with 4 utilities instead of 3 + elite.
I would be okay with the elite slot being opened for utility skills but I am completely against the healing slot being opened.
Part of the reason the skill system was designed as it was was to make it easier for people to have a reasonably decent build. There are a lot of people who simply wouldn’t take heals who would absolutely need them. Then you’ll just hear nothing about survivability complaints.
In GW1, every single profession had a self-heal and half the time people didn’t take them and depended on a single monk, who had six other people to heal. Predictably the people without self heals often died more than others, then yelled at the monk.
Some people need extra help to survive.

Some, not all. That’s why it’s called an option.
Same with heal. I’d love to have 2 heal skill and one less utility.
My suggestion: force at least one heal skill, let the 3 next be any of the utility or heal and the last any of elite, utility or heal.
if any utility skill can be used in slot 10
ill be happy to utilize lyssa runes
ill use the lowest CD and insta cast
Mantra of Pain + Lyssa runes.
What a combo.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
T-up.
But don’t touch heal skills, or it would require much more effort to balance skills properly.

Agreed. I’d support opening up the elite utility slot (or just decrease the cool down for elite skills to no more than 60 seconds). Do not touch the heal skill. Every player should be self-sufficient.
I think making the elites useful and live up to their name would be a better solution. Might just be me.

wouldn’t work, lyssa only procs on elite skills. utilities aren’t elite, no matter what slot they’re in.
I’ve been telling my guild about this idea for months. In GW1, we weren’t required to take an Elite if we didn’t want too. My main is Ele, and i often forget to use my elite in WvW which is almost always Glyph of Elementals. This Elite doesn’t help my build at all. its just a temporary pet and possible distraction to the enemy. An option for a 4th Utiliy would be nice.
i posted here and then 2 minutes later found a similar post that is slightly older. These posts should be merged or we should only reply to one so it gets the max views and responses to get it noticed by Devs.

My Engineer wants this so bad
Let’s face it- some elites just aren’t useful or have limited abilities, such as only being able to use them on land. PVE buffs would be loved.
99% of the time I do not even use my elite on some of my chars, that’s how bad they feel. The only one on constant use is the one most if not all warriors use.
Who came up with the idea of all these transforms anyway, sooo bad,.
also elites from classes that have poor elites that do not apply to nearly all build would never be used again
Superb logic.

How about
Mechanic X is broken. Let’s fix mechanic X.
All elite skills should be vastly buffed, across the board. They should be real game changers when used properly. Currently they just kitten.
