An idea for legendary weapons
Well if I got a GS legendary I’d rather have the skills I’ve come accustomed to instead of new skills.
Hmm, how about the option of both? If you want the legendary skills, just have the option of enabling it on the weapon (With a cooldown that matches your normal skill swap of course).
Well, I don’t see the harm if they’re very slightly more powerful than normal weapons, since they are hard to come by.
The different skill set is actually a nice idea since you are not to use them in sPvP. Sure it may not wield the same skills as your typical GS, but it makes it feel more legendary, like imbued with special magic.
Just put a “toggle” skill sets or wield a normal in your switch.
Just another idea, You could add an effect that would give say 10% chance on hit, to change your weapon skills to legendary weapon skills. Then you could use a certain number of charges like the Elementalist skills. However, I still like the idea of having a permanent new set of skills to use more.
Perhaps instead of giving a “new” set of skills, a Legendary weapon would allow you to customize the 5 usable skills from the pool of skills available from all of the weapons for your profession.
For example, the Elementalist can use a Staff, Scepter / Focus, Scepter / Dagger, Dagger / Focus, or Dagger / Dagger.
Now, if said Elementalist chooses to craft a Bifrost, they would be able to choose 5 Fire, 5 Water, 5 Earth, and 5 Air skills from the total available pool of weapon skills from Staff, Scepter, Focus and Dagger.
If that same Elementalist chose to craft one of the single-handed Legendary weapons, their choices would be limited to the “hand” that weapon is tied to. A main-hand weapon would all you to choose the first 3 skills in each element, while the off-hand weapon would allow you to choose the last 2.
Using this method, only “unlocked” weapon skills could be chosen. This would be done to ensure the player “unlocked” the skills on the appropriate weapon before they could be used because, with my idea, ANY available skill from a discipline (fire/water/earth/air….in this example) could be placed into any slot and skills are intended to be “unlocked” in order from 1 to 5.
This may cause balance issues due to the fact that the normal weapons themselves are balanced, but that could be countered by only allowing those choices to be active in PvE. PvP is already taken care of with PvP weapons and Legendaries can’t be used. WvWvW could be taken care of by only allowing the standard skill set for the equipped weapon to be used.
A player could always reset their skill choices to the default set if they want.
Thoughts? Other ideas? Praise? Criticism? All is welcomed. :-)

Game breaking aside, there is certainly a good argument for adding unique skills to a legendary weapon. HOWEVER, in my humble opinion it should act as an unlock rather than a static skill swapping.
If I’m a guardian wielding Bolt, I darn well better have my sword skills I’ve spent ages getting accustomed to using rather than an entirely new set of skills which I might not even like. Likewise, if I wield the Bifrost I want all of my original spells intact.
Instead a utility slot skill could be ‘unlocked’ giving a unique skill appropriate to the weapon equipped. This way you could choose to equip it or not without giving the player any massive advantages over non-legendary players since their total slot skills remain the same.

How would this work for say ranger? Would that mean i can shoot arrows out of my greatsword?
Don’t add any, it gives an unfair advantage, and thats that. It’d be cool if they had their own town skills for showing off(legendary duels in town, how cool would that be?!?!).
Honestly , people need to stop trying to make leg more than they are. Skins!
It is ok to say maybe they change something skin related , but legendary are skins people , they wont do nothing extra.
An idea i’ve been kicking around of masteries. The gist of it that by meeting a set of experiential criteria you unlock alternate skill sets for weapons. I think such a skill set associated with a legendary would be great, but only if there are alternative ways to acquire the additional sets of weapon skills.
My moves are fresh, like my groceries.

You make a valid point. I don’t know how exactly it would work. It might be different for each profession. Maybe swords can pull from sword skills and bows can pull from bow skills. If bows did that, at least you’d get shortbow and longbow skills, with the option of rearranging them how you want them. Basically picking and choosing which skills from the 2 bow types you like best.

I realize now that many people are against this idea. Legendary Weapons are not meant to offer any advantage over a standard weapon. So perhaps instead of new skills, we should get more special animations. I know that many skills already have added effects. So hopefully we can get EVERY SINGLE skill an updated graphic that makes all the attacks look extra cool.
