An idea to calm down condition damage
I assume this is for PvP/WvW (I have limited experience in both so take what I say with a grain of salt).
My first reaction is to just shout “no.”
At least in PvE conditions are subpar to straight up power. Heck, I’d argue they become weaker in any 2+ vs. X where two people both run (similar) condition builds, compared to two power builds.
Also, would clarity be an intrinsic ability to all cleanses, or just to classes that have weaker/less cleanses? Also what about cleanses that get rid of more than 1 condition, would you basically just become immune to all conditions for 1 sec (2 if you had boon duration)? Both of those sound pretty powerful.
If you use this against most condition builds, you can get 25%-30% immunity to most of their attacks (assuming you have access to more than 1 cleanse). Also some professions don’t have access to many conditions, which already makes them weaker condition builds.
If anything, I think they should just change more skills to have a similar mechanic to the warrior’s Berserker Stance, immunity to unmodified conditions for X seconds.
Edit: I do think it’s kinda funny, how in PvE conditions are relativity weak compared to PvP where they seem to be the main driving force.
Thanks for replying =D.
First of all, this is not a boon. It will only be 1 second no matter what.
Second, to make it balance, we can limit what skills will earn you the Clarity ability to make it fair.
EDIT: OR we can add a cooldown for Clarity itself if it seems overpowered. I just to reduce the speed of condition being applied. Another view of Clarity, instead of immunity of that condition, you lose it faster for X amount of second.

Conditions or debuffs in almost, if not, any game I’ve played tends to take a front seat in player vs player interactions and that has always stemmed from the fact that, in many of those cases, players can dodge raw damage.
I think calling it Salve or even Vaccination would be appropriate. Clarity almost sounds like a boon favoring skill casts (like being uninterruptable for example), but that’s just me arguing a name.
I think the concept is sound, though it would obviously have to get some balancing input, but that’s ANet’s job, not ours. We can influence balancing if/when it lands in game. Everything else is really just theory-crafting.
I don’t care about the name, you guys can decide on one if you’d like =D.
I just want people’s views of the worst case scenario for this idea and I want to work with them to see if a possible solution can be obtained.
Hmm, okay your intention was less powerful than I thought.
Like I said, I’m coming (mostly) from a PvE perspective where conditions aren’t the best approach. And you can argue that damage has 3 traits that make it bigger (power, crit damage, and precision) while condition damage only has 2 (damage and duration).
But you are almost suggesting a condition damage version of protection, just with a slightly different mechanic. On the one side, it’s only a 1 sec protection. On the other side depending when it’s activated it can block a big burst (but that’s the same as any block skill). And in the average sense it will most times just effect a single auto attack, if anything, or be used in the middle of a burst to clear the first half and ignore the second. Its just I don’t how how balanced that 2nd part is
Also, I like thinking up the worst case scenario, so sorry if I came off harsh. Again, I’m only PvP rank ~15 or so, but I know some condi builds can take down your health real quick (but you can say similar things about CC builds or power builds).
Considering the current PvP meta, it may be good if sooner (rather than later) skills (and maybe even conditions) get separated between PvE and PvP (though where WvW sits in that balance can be up for debate).
No worries =D.
I am trying to make people think if they should unleash their second burst now or later.
Make them know when to use their condition properly.
I don’t have the rights to say that using condition damage is somewhat brain dead easy and I apologize right away if I offend people by saying this.
I just want to give chance to people to survive a condition burst and able to react properly when given.
