Just to prove a point, the living story could be scraped and replaced with actual content or even permanent content. The top comments on anet’s youtube channel, posted under their latest video relate to the issue. There are so many people tired of this temporary gambling nonsense which simply doesn’t advance the game. I am not saying we have to make this game a grind but new areas to explore which relate to the original story and maybe even real dragons, for and example, would be fantastic. Simply put, using your resources on this temporary content seems like such a waste. Wouldn’t it make more sense to reserve your efforts for an expansion, while the team working on the system updates continues without this extra nonsense?

There are only so many people you can allocate to a specific task before it starts to slow down because of too many people.

I’m quite sure they have task management going on.

I guess its just frustrating for me to so much meaningless content to be produced on such quick a timeline. Many players have been asking for anet to connect a story line to the lore and most of this new stuff seems extraneous.

But to come back to your comment. I am worried about the progress of the new tasks anet has. They stated they will have no expansions and so far, with the exception of dungeon patches, haven’t produced anything worth mentioning. What I fear is that NCsoft is controlling them since our gem store money has had little evident effect.

Clearly this is a bulletproof source of information that represents the stance of the entire community.

No, no matter how much the vocal minority thinks the game should be changed to suit their whims, it’s the content of a comment that matters, not whether or not it gets a few dozen upvotes. They are certainly aware of your opinion—and they are free to ignore it.

If this post is a little sharper than is polite, I apologize, but the assertion that ANet would of course do exactly as you say if only they read their youtube comments is quite rude.

I mean in no way to be rude. There are quite a few people in the gaming majority which wish this content would be meaningful and permanent. I am using the you tube comments only as a very small portion to show how we would like to see anet spend their money, that is even if they have control over it. The game is good, don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining about that. What I am trying to get through is how the game will evolve. If anet gets caught up in all this pseudo content it seems the end result will fail.

Not meaning to be rude. But I haven’t ever read that they won’t have expansions. If fact expansions will make them more money as well as the Gem Shop.

In this Q and A with Colin Johanson from a few days ago he says the following:

Q: Any chances future update provide us access to Crystal Desert/Elona

A: Traditionally a new region would be added via expansion but we havn’t decided if we want to do expansion or Living World. It is something we are interested. Storyline you experienced this year have a clear point that is is leading to. We will add additional areas to the game either from expansions or Living world, some of those new areas will be based on GW1.

Also:

Q: More personal story or living story replaced it?

A: definitely more personal story, it depends on if we do it via boxed expansions or via Living world updates. Living World storyline is carrying the timeline now until we can get to the next personal story update.

Agreed with Firebird, besides, the LS running right now is related to the GW lore. It gives some interesting for us.

That does make me feel better firebird. I remember at the initial sales conference, ncsoft stated that they would have an expansion on the way. Anet then said they would not have any expansions with living story being a priority. However, what your telling me sounds better knowing something concrete will come from it. I guess I should have had more faith in guild wars.

Not true doubel the people halves time needed. Four times the amount of people cuts it by four. That’s common sense! /sarcasm.

Honestly, I much prefer the current way of doing things over what some other MMOs do.

For example, I come from Perfect World. In there, the only content updates you would get came with expansions. Other than the expansions, there were “events” that usually happened rarely or on a holiday. So all you would really do is grind around the same old stuff and wait for the expansion, which most likely brought a new area (that wasn’t necessarily profitable to grind in) and possibly some new races.

To me, the temporary content, while it might be short, makes the world alive. I don’t even do most of the content. But just knowing and seeing the changes that come make the world feel alive. Which I believe was the whole point behind Living Story.

Just wait. The stories seem very disjointed right now, but that will probably change within the next month or so.
