Anti-Botting Measures.
not realy need that every hour… just this captcha show ppl who was raported as bot… this game is killing by bot… much more bot that real player… this is boring… i run on map… looking ppl to play or do event and only what i find is bot… 80% players on map bot…
Ok, Either 1. You have horrid grammar & spelling, or 2. English isn’t your native language.
But regardless, I got your point. I still think after the first hour you should get hit with a Captcha, maybe reduce it a little after that, Possibly every 2-3 hours. But honestly. If your farming that consistently in a zone. You can afford to spend 10 seconds to enter a Captcha. People complain about bots so much in this game it is almost a constant topic in every map I visit.
So, Simple solution to fix the issue. Deal with the Captcha, And solve a huge part of the bot problems.
People need to learn that we will never solve the botting issue unless the community as a whole is willing to help take measures against them.
And yes, Everyone is affected by botting. They hurt the market (Botting is one of the main reasons why Ecto prices are falling rapidly.), They flood maps with so many Rangers, following the same kitten path, for hours, Turning extremely sharply. Its blatantly obvious who is botting and who isn’t. If a player can tell, Then the Dev’s should be able to come up with a system to help solve it.
I was went on yesturday and it was BARREN.. after awhile. I went into overflow.. WOW that is where most of the players went. I guess bots taking over the actual server.

Ya, This problem is spiraling out of control. And it needs to be taken care of.

I couldn’t agree more. I am not much of a forum poster, but this issue needs attention.
Just ban the ranger class that’d kill most of the problem.
So true.
Lolz, Ya, True as it may be, They would just find another class to do it with.
Well i dont think Anet are trying to do something about botting… cus lots of ppl keep reporting and reporting and they are just ignoring not banning at all…. Frostgorge Sound and Cursed Shore is full of botters and the botting community keeps growing there
So ya, A-Net, Just ran across this group here, Botting in Bloodtide Coast. Fix this. Please. Its getting out of hand. I counted 12 in the entire group.
Right now all we have is a reporting option. Which isn’t enough.
There is a conga line of ranger bots that roams Altar Brook Vale. They just run on a very consistent path and attack anything that comes within range. Destroy it!
Yup, Thats exactly why they are so effective. Get a group and nothing can touch them

and I saw 9 here today.
I saw 3 bot groups yesterday in Frostgorge.
Group 1: Ele, Ranger, Thief, Guardian(in a guild), warrior
Group 2: 3 Rangers
Group 3: 3 Guardians
They are using speed boosts as well as running in a predetermined path. Also, the captcha thing is really really annoying and doesn’t work. I have played multiple MMORPGs that had that system and it didn’t affect the bots at all and kicking a bot doesn’t work either because all you need is the auto-play/sign in thing checked and a delay routine before the cycle begins again. They literally have to be ip/mac banned and even that don’t work 100% of the time. I do agree that this is becoming an epidemic now and needs drastically to be addressed and swiftly.
Stonehenge Grr – [Heap]
Can’t figure out how to quote, for some reason.
Anyway, first off, as for the suggestion that hypothetically if ArenaNet were to “ban” the ranger profession botting would disappear, I think that statement actually shows a lack of awareness. If you haven’t noticed that nearly just as many bots now are actually greatsword warriors as are rangers, you aren’t effectively identifying bots.
As for some anti-botting measures, a few potential ways to handle it come to mind. First is the notion that a majority of botting could likely be circumvented simply by implementing an automatic, instant ban for “players” who have received, let’s say, 5 botting reports. I mean, why not? Keep in mind that abusing the /report feature is a bannable offense under the game’s ToS, so it’s not like it would be practical to falsely report people for botting just to grief them, because once the player’s validity is confirmed and his ban appealed, all the players making false reports would be banned, so I think that would be a non-issue. Even though cases of griefing via report abuse would inevitably occur, having to ban a handful of players each day would certainly be a step up from having to ban thousands of bots each day instead. If we’re going to fight botting, then implementing a measure such as this would give players direct power over bots, and consequently, the power to moderate the game to a good degree. This would probably be the most direct, most significant as well as the most easy-to-implement anti-botting measure of all.
Another that comes to mind at this point is something like what FallenAdvent suggested above. Random verification. Have them automatically distributed among players who have been online for a matter of a few hours within the same day (not consecutive hours, which could be circumvented simply by having the bot scripts log off and then on again intermittently). Prompt players randomly, between, say, a minimum of two hours to a max of five hours. This would devastate the botting scripts, which would be prevented from logging on again for a few hours if they either fail to answer the prompt correctly or fail to respond at all. Worst (or rather best) of all, the bots would be booted in the middle of the night while botters are sleeping, which God knows they likely will be doing until 6PM the following day when their mom brings dinner up to their rooms, leaving a significant amount of downtime. What about players who are simply AFK when their prompt comes up? Well, don’t prompt players that haven’t had any keyboard input for 10+ seconds. Queue those players for a prompt to appear the moment they input again. This way you theoretically prevent bot scripts from being directed to AFK for an hour or two at a time when it’s most likely they’ll be prompted (because AFKing does not exempt a user from verification, it simply delays it). As for player convenience, it really wouldn’t be such a big deal. In a way it would kind of remind me of Guild Wars 1’s “please take a break” messages, and hey, maybe it would even encourage players to actually take a break.
As far as I can discern, a combination of both these measures would effectively destroy the botting and quickly, if not instantly, make it a humorous memory from the game’s launch. Most botting initiatives would be nipped in the bud by players — who currently report bots in droves but never actually taste the satisfying fruits of their efforts — and the few who ever somehow make it past player moderation would inevitably be shut down soon after by the automated verification system anyway.
Of course, ArenaNet probably thought of all this on day one and are probably already in the middle of implementing something similar or better. But still.
I have a way better solution : if more than 10 players reports a bot, an event is created to kill them all, people will be encouraged to kill them because they’ll get karma points and experience for it
Really think of this ArenaNet, I think it’s the best way to exterminate bots from the game without annoying players with captchas.
Just ban the ranger class that’d kill most of the problem.

I saw a total of 12 guardians botting. Go figure, guardians…. the next bot-god. Took a lil bit to report them all.
