Yes, that’s why I tend to shoot him for about 20 seconds and then walk off and do something else.

GW2 has a general problem with balancing Mob HP in various situations. It’s not limited to this Champion.

1. Most normal mobs during DE have way too little HP to pose a threat to large (10+) groups of players. At times it can be hard to tag mobs because they die so fast. This is especially an issue in the Cursed Shore Events.

2. Some Champions and Bosses have a tedious amount of HP, while lacking engaging mechanics. This is true for Dungeons as much as it is true elsewhere. Long fights are ok, especially in dungeons….if they are engaging. But doing the same dance for 5+ Minutes is really not ok.

There are countless bosses in Dungeons that wouldn’t be significantly easier with half the HP they have currently. But the fact that we have to blast through their massive HP pools is just tedious.

Haha that champion is annoying as hell because most melee can’t stand toe to toe with him, he resorts to running around in circles ravaging everyone who is squishy. As a melee guardian, it is very annoying since most CC is nullified.

Every time it manages to land a blow it gains a stacking self-buff increasing its movement and attack speed. So it can singlehandedly destroy groups much better than any dragon can. When I first time encountered it I was kind of shocked that developers would place these things in personal story maps. But there I was bennyhilling for about 10+ minutes with bombs. Glory to bombs as they don’t require turning camera much, only good bennyhilling skills.

DeeJay – I share these same opinions as well. Long fights don’t make a fight epic. Interesting fight mechanics and challenge do.

Anet really should do something about the HP of these champion mobs. Something simple that could be done is to see how much HP damage a group of 15-20 players can do to a mob of Champion status with full condition stacks and power based damage in 3 minutes, then use this amount for HP. Champion mobs also shouldn’t be just giant versions with bigger HP pools and more damage. These mobs also need an extra skill or two that forces even a big group of players to coordinate.

Some skills that would make the fight interesting:

Abomination swings his clubs into the ground and does a line nuke.
Abomination jumps up and smashes into the ground for area cripple.
Abomination releases pungent fumes that cause weakness/poison in area.

Knowledge is power.

That mob is hilarious. He literally fixates himself on ONE person, and sticks to that person the ENTIRE fight. As long as they don’t die, that is. When he’s frenzied (or w/e makes him hella fast) it’s hard not to die sometimes lol but I rarely go down on my thief thanks to mobility. I think it’s kind of fun actually, being the person that needs to kite him.

I would like more mobs to be crazy like this and with a huge group his HP pool isn’t what everyone makes it out to be. You just want events to end faster so you get more rewards… enjoy the fight or do something else. Too much kitten zerging for lootz.

Most mobs in GW2 have too much health. The only exception is the normal mobs that proc in events being zerged, the ones that melt in a couple of seconds due to the massive AoE being dropped on them. Why does it take several spells or sword swings to take out a spider that just hatched, for instance. Champions and dungeons bosses are more noticeable because they take so long to down.

It’s not that they have too much health, it’s that they can 2 shot you if you get near them. This effectively makes melee a moot point and waters down combat even further. Instead of battles that requires thinking and skill management, we get people running in circles, auto attacking with ranged hoping to god that the thing doesn’t touch them.

Never mind the fact that the rewards are so pathetic for how long it takes to kill these guys that it’s never really worth the bother.

He has too much HP, and the trash mobs have too little. As an engineer without a ton of burst damage, I often find myself getting silver and bronze, despite hitting every mob and staying with the event from start to finish, simply because the trash mobs die too quickly for me to get even a couple of hits on them

That one is kitten hard. Myself and 3 other people fought for about 10 min to take it down. Unfortunately for me, even after I died and rejoined the fight it kept its focus on me. I did get a bit dizzy running in circles. All I did to contribute was keep it off the others and drop traps since if I stopped for more than that it was beating the kitten out of me

Nah, it has just as much health as other Champion mobs too imo. The other day my Engineer and a random Necro ran into one in SoD and were nearly able to take him down. If it weren’t that about 3 more new Risen suddenly spawned near us and we made some grave mistake, I’d say our fight was pretty smooth.

His attack is so slow that sometimes I’d stand in front of him waiting, then do a block/dodge/evasive skill to stall some time for my necro teammate to give everything she can on it. I did however find it a bit annoying that other than CC, even Crippled wasn’t working, good thing Immobilized still worked…

That song should just que automatically, just did the fight and I have to say it was probably 10 times more hilarious.

On topic: It does seem he is basically designed as a “zerg buster” (patent pending.) because even if you have 30+ people it is still a kitten hard fight. Maybe its intentional?

Most of the champions in this game, regardless of location, have too much HP. It’s like trying to break down a solid wall with a spoon. It’s possible, but not enjoyable. Also, too man of them have large AoE 1-hit-KO abilities. Usually with a poor visual indicator, especially over the cacophony of effects from the 30 people attacking it.

Yep, it has way too much health. Apparently Anet went to the same game design school as the D3 team over at Blizzard – make things “challenging” by giving champion mobs ridiculous amounts of HP and/or cheap one/two shot mechanics.
