Auto-Targeting Issue
The game for some odd reason prioritize camera direction over proximity in relation to targeting.
At first i thought it did this as a invisible crosshair, but recently it seems to target mobs even if the camera is pointing straight down!
Meaning that the game will look for any viable target, yellow or docile red included, in the horizontal direction the camera is pointing first.
This out to a range of 1200, unless it bumps into a obstacle of some sort (wall, tree, anything that can break line of sight).
Only if there is nothing in the direction set up above will it start looking for targets in proximity of the character.
In the options menu there is a ‘target closest enemy’ thingy. Assign that to the C key and problem solved. Hit C, start casting. (Although I do agree that the auto-targeting system is just really really wrong, just offering a solution of some sort)
Even “target closest enemy” will prioritize what near the center of the screen over what is actually nearest the character.
Target Closest Enemy worked beautifully in GW1. They need to take that set of parameters and program it into this game. (GW2 does pick targets very poorly for some reason.) Thank goodness they at least allow you to toggle off right-click targeting now. That reduced my accidental targeting a ton.
And above all: allow us to toggle YELLOW mobs on/off. I rarely want to fight yellow monsters for any reason. I can understand them being accidentally aggroed if I catch them in my AoE, but I rarely have any reason to select them as my primary target.
To complete the targeting repairs, you also need to be able to toggle OFF a “called target”. I periodically call targets by accident if I am doing a quest where I need to depress the CRTL key to find stuff. There’s no way to get rid of it until you destroy the target and everyone involved loots it (easiest just to switch to a white-text target and kill that.)
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.
