Can the game be changed in some way that I get badges without having to search for them on a battle field?
I understand there is an element of realism to having to look for treasure after a fight, but I don’t feel like we’re looking for treasure. Badges symbolize WvW kills.
The problem as I see it is that the treasure dropping mechanic is designed for PvE, in which you’re not really in a hurry and so you can take a small time out after a fight. In WvW, you are just wasting time because you’re racing against the clock and other players.
I would like to build a consensus that this should basically be easier to get the things you earned for killing a player. Otherwise, I feel like I’m being encouraged to be selfish in a group wide conflict which is something Anet seems to dislike (no competing for material nodes, no competing for loot bags etc).
It would be nice never to miss a bag.
I’d really like for the badges to work as another form of currency like karma. The "drop rates’ would simply become acquisition rates but if it means the annoyance of missing a bag or two once in a while so Anet can work on the game breaking bus I’m willing to settle for that.
Is anyone opposed to this?
I agree with this. I probably miss half of my bags. I normally lead the charge into the enemy forces and don’t have time to turn back for my drops.
This has been mentioned for quite a long time. I have never heard anyone not say they do not want this. Why was this not in the game initially?
Been saying it from day one of beta that in WvW it needs to be fully auto loot.
Players just sometimes don’t have the time to look around for loot or even in many cases the loot appears after you have been killed, its even been known to appear in inaccessible places as well.
Please Anet hear the players and make this happen sooner rather than later.
Auto-loot would solve the problem, but if I understand correctly, the OP seems to have the impression that we compete with each other for bags, which is not the case. Each person only sees their own bags.
Setting up an auto collect in your options helps a bit (it saves you one click at least). But yes I would LOVE for Badges to just auto drop for me.
What would be better than that, would be the entire contents of the loot bags in WvW simply going straight into your inventory… a real auto loot system.
When I am in a small coordinated group, especially in a scenario when we want to be moving as fast as possible (utilizing 100% swiftness and Mesmer portals), I often times have to consider whether it is even worth it to run back to that loot bag I missed.
Also, when on a siege weapon and raking up kills, the bags at your feet aren’t ideal either, and a real auto-loot system would fix it. If you sit on your siege weapon too long, the loot bags will despawn. If there are a bunch of siege weapons all near each other, it becomes very difficult to pick up loot bags without your character trying to jump on each and every siege weapon (whether occupied or not) before picking up the loot bags.
Somewhere amongst all the AMA PR junk, was a list of incoming WvWs stuff.
One was that they`re looking into changing how things drop/loot etc. Either that or they were considering changing the graphic for the dropped bags (to which I /facepalmed).
It hurts to imagine how many badges I’ve left on the ground. They built this game to be a game based entirely around mobility, and yet they want us to stop and retrace our steps to potentially find bags that may or may not have dropped just to get our badges.
It’s asinine.
Think that when the OP said selfish he meant by having to take time to stop or run back to pick up the bags. This is something I fully agree with and would like to see changed. Like someone already mentioned, just give us points (like Karma) in stead of badges.
Think about it Anet your missing out on players not buying inventory and bank expansions by not having this feature

It would be nice to have worthwile loot too. So far Wvw is subpar in terms of return on time spent when it comes to loot / coin / gear.

I disagree with this. I like the risk factor with picking up drops. Sure I’ve found myself lying dead next to many bags before and sure it is painful to watch but that is part of the game. The WvWvW experience gives highs and lows and drama and if we make things automatic and nerf other aspects then the game will become simpler and boring imo.
I used to play a game where if you died, you dropped the contents of your backpack. Everything including gold for the victor to pick up. I love this idea and makes you want to stay alive. Be grateful this was not implemented and your only concern is that you miss a couple of bags when you were completely out matched and died on the battlefield.
Kalemar, you dislike it because you enjoy the risk. Have you ever purchased a piece of wvw armor? I played another MMO and once lost a month’s worth of farming cash, but that’s not a part of this game and is not in line with the philosophy of the game. I don’t miss a couple of bags, I miss a lot of bags. Especially when I started WvW and didn’t know you could get bags from players because when I play my class I’m pushing, and I don’t turn back unless I’m dying. By the time you walk the 5 minutes across the map, it’s not even realistic to go try to find the bag. So it’s always a question of do the selfish thing and get your loot or do the WVW thing and help your team. That’s not a decision that makes sense.
And also, if I wasn’t clear, I know that you don’t compete for bags. That’s the point. You shouldn’t have to compete for your bag. But right now I am competing for my bags because there are people trying to kill me while I get them That’s an interesting part of the game, but I don’t think it’s intended to keep me from getting the rewards available. Right now I can buy a whole set of exotic with gold faster than than I can get one piece with wvw badges. I really doubt that’s intended.
How can we get a dev’s attention on this?

Everybody I know agrees that there should be an auto-loot for the WvW drops.
Lol at the guy saying he likes the risk….auto loot has been in every mmo in the last 10 years…is it really that hard to code Anet?…war even had a system of what type of loot u wanted..so yeah a simple medal loot would be nice…and something worth spending the medals on.
An auto-loot system would be nice. The thing that annoys me the most though is loot is based off damage done, so my bunker builds rarely if ever get Badges of Honor, while my glass cannon builds get a lot of Badges of Honor.

I don’t think so, which is why I hope it is implemented someday. Just autoloot everything not from PvE mobs in WvW (e.g., random basilik’s and moa’s, and whatnot).

Hell no! Cause part of getting your loot bags is surviving the fight.
No Anet, don’t touch this. if you cant go back for your loot or survive to get it you don’t earn it. You lose loot, oh well.

…I can’t believe people are advocating that WvW drops (specifically badges) should require being picked up…whatever, they’re entitled to their opinion even if I think its some of the dumbest stuff I’ve ever read (and I read the bro code so that’s saying a lot).

You’re forgetting one big point there is a difference between PvE loot and WvW loot.
That being player intervention, be that in a full on charge/retreat or even on siege equipment where time is of the essence, or even in the bouts of death while in PvE you have a chance to fight for life, which is something not always available in WvW through being spiked (Player finishing move).
Are you really advocating that players in WvW should look out for themselves rather than the team by stopping at each loot bag while everyone else is fighting for success, it’s not like you can say hold up a sec I’ve got loot to pick up or Time out all while we pick up everything.
PvE yes you have the time to do it clear the area and go back to pick up, WvW on the other hand there isn’t that luxury 24/7
I would agree with the Auto Badge loot. Not the everything auto loot. You should have to pick up everything else.
Right. If you want to go back later and pick up the items dropped when a player dies (even though it’s not their item), ok.
I’m talking about badges, the reward for killing people in WvW seems like it should be automatic.
Is that because… as a guardian I have to choose between helping my team and getting my loot. Doesn’t seem like a decision Anet would want me to make.
I still don’t understand why WvW events don’t award badges as well as money/karma/exp.
Yea it definitely needs to be automatic. Especially since it shares the same key as Revive and Finish. Can’t tell you how often I have hit F thinking I was picking up loot when I start to rez someone or spike another player and die only to see 5 bags of loot around me. I’m too busy dodging and fighting to look for that little brown, barely visible bag on the ground.
That and I just added 50 to my kill count and not one freaking badge.
NOT.ONE.BADGE.
