Please everyone just stop, this is not a debate like you may think it is. The reality is that point and click just wouldn’t work.
1. Pathfinding. A. If pathfinding allowed use on jumping puzzles it would destroy the difficulty. All you would do is click and hit space bar.
B. The terrain design. Anet was shot down by their own programming when they attempted to do this. Ledges and pathfinding made some crazy reactions. C. Exploiting. Combat against projectile weapons would be click back and forth while enemy attack, stop for second after they attack and retaliate.
2. Combat philosphy. A. Click and points would break the current style of movement in combat
B. This game was designed to also be friendly for console use in the future while remaining a near exact replica of the PC version, which the current use of mouse and WASD is very similar to double analog sticks (Id prefer using a keybinded 360 controller over both WASD and point n click)
The only reason I can think of that would allow the use of point and click is if it rescticted you to straight lines, which Auto run already fulfills.

The only MMO I’ve played with point and click to move was lineage 2 and I hated it, I quit that game after only a couple of weeks.
I use the mouse to move around as well as my belkin game pad and have no problems with moving and using skills. I only ever use my keyboard for typing and not game controls.
Get a game pad and a good mouse and you’ll have no problems. Just relying on a keyboard isn’t very good.
I would love to see the point and click added again!

point-click for movement can work for continuous terrain. for jumping spaces, we can switch to button movement.
-.- point click to move is a thing of the pass, its anciant history becouse its simply a inferior control scheme, its useless compared to the current asdw/mouse camera control scheme..
HOWEVER i do not see a reason for not allowing this due to gameplay choices, and i think auto approach on skills is a need as well as a “range indicator” at the name and making skills which cannot be cast unless casted at a foe unable to be “wasted” meaning if it cannot be casted due to lack of los, range, etc. it simply does not go off and isnt wasted.
basic stuff like that need to be optional which you can choose to set on/of
Guild Wars 2 default controls are horrible—mainly because there isn’t point-click to move so we’re forced to use the keyboard controls to move and activate skills at the same time—which is clunky and inefficient. To make the situation worse, GW2 has around twice the amount of skill buttons as GW1—and we’re now forced to share keyboard space with movement buttons! Basically, the GW2 default controls are logically flawed.
To resolve this problem, may I suggest to add point-click for movement [like back in GW1]? It can be added to enhance the current movement scheme. So users can focus on using the keyboard for activating skills and using mouse for movement—instead of the current method of expecting users to use their one hand on the keyboard to do almost everything!
NOTE: I already know I can hold down both left/right mouse buttons at the same time to move. I also know about autorun. But these are still not efficient nor comfortable for constant play.
NOTE: I have already tried reconfiguring my controls as suggested by some users [such as Taugrim’s control scheme], but for this game it’s still not as efficient as having point-click to move.
NOTE: Point-click for movement would also include auto-attack and follow [like in GW1].
NOTE: Point-click for movement can work for continuous terrain. For jumping spaces, we can switch to button movement.
BTW: For those of you who also can’t stand the default controls, you can try my custom movement controls that are mentioned in the link below. It helps to improve the current situation. However, there is a small bug with it—which is caused by the game [I have reported it]. But it’s still very usable and far better than the default controls…
I’m sorry, but did you even play GW1? It had 8 spells, GW2 has 10 how is that twice as many skills?
Yes M1+M2 is basically the same as click apart from you hold it in. Anet would have to make adjustments to their combat system to fit this feature in, which means it wont ever come.
Razer Naga + Razer Nostromo = Win
This cost some money though, but it’s the best setup for optimal and superior movement and skill activation IMO.

I fully support the author’s theme, an indication of running through the mouse, as it was in GW-1, much more convenient. I nehochu offending scene, but they have committed folly.
A simple example. There is fighting, and my character is a little life, and then I see that I was running and just two. I need to get away quickly. In GW-1, I’m just pointing the mouse to bezhati game server perform all movements.
But to escape using the buttons I need to expand it – and this time! In GW-1, server receives a command from the mouse, not only for the second character unfolded.
Not to mention the fact that the entire game, you must hold down the “W”! It’s just annoying!!!

Point-click movement in a third person MMO?
I dont think I’ve ever played an MMO (besides WoW) that had a point-click movement option. I dont think I could ever be able to play an MMO that used it, especially not a PvP heavy game.
You think there are too many skill buttons? I wonder if you have played any other MMO besides GW1. This game has a perfect number of skill buttons, the class with most is the engi but its still a minimal amount of skill buttons compared to other MMOs.
Sure it would be great if they added point-click options for those that want it. But it would really be to no benefit to you as MMO players. You would be better off getting used to the keyboard movement. There are just too many things that point-click cant do.
So yopu haven’t been playing GW1.
But that’s beside the point, we’re not playing other MMO’s here, where you can bring 50.000 diverent skill with you. If you want that, then don’t play GW
Point and klick works great if you need to run from A to B with out fighting. And for all of you who don’t want to use it, DON’T USE IT. It’s that simple.
Some one said that the controls of GW1 didn’t work to good. For me they worked a whole alot beter then the controls of GW2. I spent over 2 hours chancing them and to make some sence of them.
This is a funny post, we are suppose to take this seriously?
But that’s beside the point, we’re not playing other MMO’s here, where you can bring 50.000 diverent skill with you. If you want that, then don’t play GW
That is mature and reasonable. I guess the same can be said for you, if you want point and click then play Guild Wars and not Guild Wars 2.
Point and klick works great if you need to run from A to B with out fighting.
There are two things about this
A: if you want to run from one point to another point then do so, it is your choice to fight or press “R”
B: If you want us to take you seriously at least spell “CLICK” correctly. It is Click not Klick
I spent over 2 hours chancing them and to make some sence of them.
Not really sure why it took you two hours to re-map your keys, that is a nice way of saying something.
Also it is Sense not Sence I am only to assume your computer has Mouse right click auto correction re-map to something different that would make more sence to you and never gets used. ;-)
Also it is Changing not Chancing. You take a chance ( or risk ) on things, although to modify something is to Change.

I do not want to upset you, but you’re wrong.
When you have a character moves the server, this is 100 times faster than when you do it yourself, by pressing a button.
You just point where to run, and the server does the rest, he will decide what and how your character should do to pass the obstacle. Or jumping to get to the map hanging in the air. You cann’t even imagine how much it costs spoiled nerves kagda we have to do buttons!

At first I thought, “Yes!” but I think it would cause a lot of issues during a battle. If you are clicking on your target and accidentally click on the ground instead, you could easily lose. Because this game is now all about moving during a battle, it’s a major issue.
If you accidentally clicked the mouse movement, you can immediately press the retreat. I have not played in six months, GV-1, but as far as I remember, it is necessary to run double click of a mouse, not one. So, the chance to trigger, your dosing errors is extremely low.

Click to move was removed because it is incompatible with the new combat system.
It also helps bots to move around easier., and requires pathfinding. If you remove point to click, you get rid of those annoying issues, and the impact to players is minimal.
We’ve been using WADS since before DOOM, and everyone has been able to get used to it.
Nonsense! On the contrary, the current system does not meet the game and posed challenges to the player!

I really don’t get why people have to get used to WASD … it’s like the most standard system of controlling a character. I even used it in GW1 (just feels better).
Why WASD is better: You can move in any direction while controlling the direction your character is looking at. You can’t do that with klick-to-move. But you need to do that to play GW2 properly. (in GW1 you didn’t)So what happens with klick-to-move? – People who use it will suck. (most of them. Some won’t but i’m talking about average here) People will get frustrated. So better force them to get used to WASD right away.
Maybe I misunderstood the translation and then you praise WASD?
I’ve always played the GW-1 mouse and have never, I repeat, never pressed WASD and do not regret it!
Game Server, is much more accurate, faster and above all does move the character than your WASD.
There was no case to my Ranger, surrounded by enemies, and here all the time.
In the left to the right? Motion control? Yes I am in GW-1, maneuvering in all 12 o’clock direction with the mouse.

If you bring back the point click movement it wouldn’t work out. That is because this game has been designed to include the moving around the world as 1 of the challenges offered to us. for example “Vistas” or many “Points of Interest” and “Jumping Puzzles” require that you pay attention to the way you move. It would ruin the whole purpose of you just add point click movement.
Besides GW and GW2 are two very different games.
Nonsense!

Guys, why wouldnt you want it back. AS AN OPTION. they wouldnt need to revamp the game. Where the heck do you get that from?
Just add it as an option that is able to be turned on or off.
It would benefit people with disablities and accessibility issues. Plus, if you think its suck a handicap, that means you will have an advantage over them if you ever meet them in World v World or whatever.
There is no reason to NOT have it as an option.
That being said, if they forced everyone to use it without choice, that would be bad. I prefer WASD with G700 mouse buttons.
I fully support the author! Disabilities, are also playing in GW is a game developer, easy to press buttons!

We are sworn together by our blood…
If point-click movement was to be implemented for continuous terrain (optionally and in a switchable manner), I would be all for that. In GW1 I very much liked having access to both keyboard and mouse click controls at the same time and wouldn’t mind if it was also an option in GW2.

I am guessing that most of those ranting against click to move are under 30. Many of you will have a different outlook a few years from now when your wrists and elbows get sore after a couple of hours of keyboard mashing.
Would a GW1 type click to move be useful for me, YES! Not as a substitute for the current combat system, but as a chance for my wrists to rest while out gathering mats for crafting or map running to avoid waypoint costs. Why shouldn’t I be able to click on or near that tree across the valley and have my toon run to it while my arms relax? Or click on loot have have the toon run to it and pick it up. Looting was simple in GW1, much more painful in GW2.
GW2 seems designed by folks under 30, right handed, with fast reflexes and perfect color vision.
And yes, I have been playing computer games since before Diablo 1 was released by a little company called Blizzard.
While it is not, I’m 36, but I have damaged the nervous system and does not work the left hand. Therefore Yavas support.

If the tech is so modern, how come GW2 is using a movement interface dating to the early 1980s? IIRC, Teleguard on the C64 used a version of WASD. I played that one BTW. A modern interface should off load some of the tedium to the CPU, not force the player to command every twitch of the toon. The later developed click to move does that. If WASD is such a superior interface, why do so many folks need or want a special multi-button gaming mouse? And BTW, based on what I read in other threads, using such a mouse could be interpreted as a violation of the GW2 TOS since it can confer an in-game advantage over someone using the game ‘as designed’. I doubt Anet would go that far…..
As I said above, I am not asking for a replacement to the WASD GW2 movement system(dodging is cool), just an addition to let my wrists and elbows rest while my toon runs to the next doomed tree.
you’re right!

B. This game was designed to also be friendly for console use in the future while remaining a near exact replica of the PC version, which the current use of mouse and WASD is very similar to double analog sticks (Id prefer using a keybinded 360 controller over both WASD and point n click)The only reason I can think of that would allow the use of point and click is if it rescticted you to straight lines, which Auto run already fulfills.
In GW-1 no such problem. Mercenaries and my character, if propostyu ahead, and I to the other side does not reach it, and did not run right into it. How did they know that have to be unlocked??
Why is my character in the game knows that to get to the house, you can through the door, not a wall, like a ghost?
Because all this is indicated in the computer program the game!
And if they want to, without waiting for a character to the team of the player, jumped a fence or a fallen tree, they can write it in the program.
And the fact that you’ve written here, says the poor performance of the developers or their mistakes.

Let me try to refute these arguments, one-by-one:
1/A: Click movement obviously would not work for platforming. It should only work for continuous terrain and do nothing when you click on a remote platform.
1/B: My experience greatly differs from yours. I have observed NPC mobs to have no problem following me anywhere, unless I’m on a remote platform. The same, already well-refined pathfinding algorithm could work for players.
1/B2: Yes, yes you could. You can already do the same with skills like Jump Shot or Blink.
1/C: This tactic also works using keyboard keys to move. In fact, you can turn around in an instant if you bind that function to a key.
2/A: No it wouldn’t. Both keyboard movement and click movement can be used to move around in combat and avoid damage.
2/B: First, that’s hardly relevant. Second, an already optional and switchable mouse-click movement mechanic would be simple to remove for any console release of the game. The game options would obviously need to be changed for a console release, anyway.
I’m not saying mouse click movement needs to be added to the game, I’m just pointing out that the points you brought up against this gameplay suggestion hardly prove that it would break the game in any way, contrary to what you suggested.

In the game “Perfect World”, control is via the mouse, but in this case, the character makes cover those, as here: Jump and swim under water. Its movement, no different from the movement of my character in GW-2.
So do not write nonsense, that he can not do it here, if the mouse controls. Jump, and you can leave on the button, the rest of the mouse is not a problem.
Dear creators of the GV-2. are you afraid that I would feel better with jumping? Can do so, as in “Perfect World”. The height and distance of the jump depends on how long it kept the jump key and the mouse only indicates the direction.
Held down longer flew past, less is not to jump to the target.

1) buttons

3) button with the mouse.
Every game, as it is convenient and each had their own style. And it’s not who was not hurt.
It is now that all herded into one frame, then some players (that used to play on the buttons) have an advantage over other players, by the others, the buttons play worse.
