I really want to transmute my engineer backpack onto something that has stats, so I can keep my appearance without “wasting” that slot on something that doesn’t have stats.

have you tried the transmutation stones?

Transmutation stones don’t work on back items.

C’mon, at least give it an upgrade slot or something?

Funny…I’ve transmuted backpieces on multiple occasions…including the engineer backpack. Backpieces with stats have upgrade slot as well.

You are of course aware that if one item is level 80 you will need a fine stone?
