I would like to state that I have no exact knowledge of how the ban system works exactly in terms of details so I apologize if i am suggesting an option that has been implemented already.
The main Issue I am seeing with these botters is that they are able to use multiple accounts to bypass the whole ban issue. There are a couple simple solution to this; however, I am not quite sure how Anet would feel about this.
1) When an account of any type is banned a couple of empty files are hidden on the users computer in areas that would not be suspect to look into. Upon running the GW2 exe would check to see if these files are on the computer, if so the exe will not launch and will auto close out. In the event that they are able to create a patch to bypass that, upon hitting login it will auto scan for those files and auto shutdown. This would prevent botters and bored hackers from targeting accounts to get around bans. Granted the solution would be whipping the computer clean and starting over but that would take a couple of hours then re-installing guild wars 2, at that point it becomes to much of a burden for them.
2) Comp ID/MAC Address bans, these would be an alternative option to #1 that would bare the same result. Preventing the botters/ bored hackers from using multiple accounts after having one of their accounts banned. You can still bypass this however it is a little more complex and very time consuming compared to number 1.
These type of bans would only be used for the following offenses:
1) Hacking
2) Botting
3) Multiple Short Term Bans (2-3 times in a month)
The only complaint would be: “well now my little brother/sister can’t play guild wars because we share computers”
Solution: Shouldn’t have tried to cheat, and now you can explain to your little brother/sister why they can’t play guild wars 2 on your computer if you do in fact have one.
There are other unique ban options that I love; however, they may not be great ideas legally for Anet.
That sounds close to wilful sabotage of a person’s computer and is legally shaky if they ban some rich gamer with a good lawyer.
