So I know by the latest blog post that no new professions will be implemented any time soon. But I was just thinking about how Musical Instruments have been making a bit of a presence in the game. Thinking back to DAoC and the Bard as a playable class. They really did a great thing with that class, having different instruments that created different songs.

I think something along that line would work very well in GW2. Being able to swap between 4 instruments(like a Elementalist swaps elementals, F1-F4) to play a set of different musical tunes. There could be different tunes for buffing allies, or even damaging enemies.

I think it would be a fun profession to play as. Just seeing what everyone else thinks about it. If you like that idea what 4 types of instruments would you like to see available to play?

If you really wanted that new profession, you would have worked out your new idea a lot better. Now it’s just vague and without any purpose. Besides the gimmicky instruments, what would set that class apart? If you can swap between instruments, what would be in your main and off-hand?

“Oh you know what would be really cool? A fistfighting class. You can like.. punch people.. yeah… what do you think?”

There’s a sort of dredge that’s got a bard-like power so I guess it’s not beyond the realm of possibility for a player profession as well. It might work well as a slightly more supporty one but then that may head down the trinity trail.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

It probably shouldn’t involve things ‘like <insert name of existing profession>’ either. Like an elementalist with attunement swapping would not bring anything new to the game. It would be an elementalist by another name with another set of skills. You could just add another weapon that elementalists can equip instead and put the skills there.

Exactly. And then there will also have to be unique utility skills. Warriors have banners, necromancers have wells and minions… What would the bard have? People should really work out their ideas to include those things before even thinking of posting it on the forums,

I always thought bards were lame/boring in pretty much all games. Unless they make Bards like those musician assassins in Kung FÜ Hustle… Now that would be a viciously awesome bard. :s

I think music based weps could already fit fairly well thematically with the Mesmer class already in the game. You even fire musical notes at people with the underwater trident. Perhaps they could add a musical weapon (like a flute or something) with group buffs, debuffs and confusion based skills?

This would actually work out well. Then a new class would not have to be added, rather just add some weapons to the current class.
