I just thought about a way to better implement lore into GW2, without tweaking with the Task- or Dynamic Event system.
- In GW1 each outpost or city would, when you pressed the icon on the map, show some background lore for each place in a panel before you chose to fast travel to its location. It explained what was there and to some extent why. It was a brief introduction but it was enough to get an impression of what had happened before and what was to be expected in the areas.

GW2 does not come with outposts. What it does come with is waypoints and points of interests.
- The Waypoints are something fairly new, meaning that more recent lore about the places you fast travel to could be introduced when you press them, and the panel comes up before you choose to fast travel there.
- The Points of Interests could provide more ancient knowledge, or introduce the finer points of why that point is particularly interesting.

I think this would be a good way to add some story into the game, since GW2 doesn’t come with much background story and lore through its task system.

Just a thought to get an underrated feature (but certainly an important one) from GW1 into GW2.

Most people playing this game now don’t care about the lore, so as a result ANet don’t care about the lore. Sad but true.

Do you have anything to back up your statement, or are you just assuming?

Seriously, everything that is a poi should have lore surrounding it at our fingertips.
The WPs should have even MORE lore available to us ala a journal in our hero menu. After all, why did the waypoints get placed there by the asura? That in and of itself is a lore entry waiting to be explained.

ArenaNet doesn’t care about lore? Man some people don’t know what they’re talking about. I agreed with this on the lore forum and I’ll agree with it here. There are over 700 points of interest and I believe 300 waypoints. I would spend a day or two reading every single one of them if ArenaNet added text to them. I know many others would agree with me on this.

Waypoints aren’t asura gates. Nothing to do with asuras. Waypoints don’t really exist in the lore, it’s just for fast travel for players.

Thou art wrong, sir.
- The Asurans actually speak of the Waypoints as being the best way to travel, second only to their Asura gates.
- Also in Orr there are Dynamic Events that will have you escort Asurans to a broken waypoint to activate it.

But yes, the waypoints were implemented for the convenience, although ANet still added a bit of lore to why they are there.

Thank you Sinifair, it amazes me when people post about lore and haven’t bothered actually going around talking/listenning to the npc’s.

In Orr you will hear an asura (believe he is actually in the camp south of fort trinity, though could be in a different camp on that map) actually grumble about how hard it was setting up the waypoints in Orr.

i love the idea, i would also love of getting some lore right in my hero journal whenever i discover a new POI.
the first time i got to a POI i was utterly disappointed that nothing special happened but for a nice place to see.
vista and skill points i can get it (beautiful landscape and place of powers or challenge). but POIs?

Haha! I believe he might’ve had a hard time, yeah.
- I have yet to reach all of them.

Hehe, yeah. It struck me as odd, when he said that the playerbase and ANet didn’t care about their lore… especially since there is an entire section of the forum called “Lore” which by the way is very much alive and active, with players discussing lore and answering other players’ questions about it.
- Good to have your support, my friend.

Sry i know the lore but not that lore-ruining post-made asuran kittens… just doens’t make sense. With their megalasers why do they need other races? To use their lasers?.. Same goes for the charr. Pact is fighting with mostly asura/charr technology, almost 0 magic (aside from personal story and some minor rituals). The whole reason to unite and figh together just doesn’t make sense sometimes.

Only reason can be that they need more frontliners.. but charrs have tanks for that, asuras got golems, yet we are there fighting with swords. Casts feel dumb compared to the devices used in the game and that’s bad..

Waypoints shouldn’t be canon. Otherwise, they’d provide a HUGE loophole in a lot of things. They’d be an equivalent of the conundrum of the griffon out of Mordor in LOTR.

“Why did Logan travel to Ebonhawke when he could’ve just used the Waypoint closest to it? THAT one wasn’t contested!”

Amphibian phallus: The Waypoints is more like getting an idea of the Outpost there. What is its story, why was it placed? Was there some battle against some enemy to get it? Is in an important trading post?
- Mainly to get some information on the surrounding area, really. Not as much the waypoint itself, since it would be the same for every one “We placed it out of convenience.”

I think the princess should be wearing a charr backpack. Logan would have a matching one.
