Black Lion Keys
They did drop in beta and shortly after release. I don’t know when or why this stopped. I haven’t ever gotten anything useful out of a black lion chest. They almost always contain boosters. I would like to see tier 6 or tier 7 crafting components that I couldn’t gather on my own pop out, or a unique set of exotic skins for armor and weapons that can only be found in those chests. Odds are, I wouldn’t care for the skins and could sell them on the trading post for 30g. That would be useful.
They still drop, but are very rare yet marked as common rarity so MF does not increase drop rate. Dailies and monthlies also have these as uncommon drops.
A-net to OP: “You’re welcome” :P
What Lord Aargadon said. I got a random key drop a few days ago, but you’re more likely to get them from daily/monthly/map complete. Even then, unlikely.
Map completion has a decent chance to reward a BL Key, also leveling up a character to level 10 and to the Story Mission always rewards a BL Key.
Or maybe you would change for skill points. 10 SP = 1 Key, 100 SP = 15 Keys
This RND box is a joke. But it is for money, and lots of ppl buy that keys. Anet think this is a popular thing and good solution.
I learned from Atlantica Online (Nexon game) never buy rnd things again. That was the first and the last. I bought several mount boxes (hundreds of euro), but I did not get a mount. That was the time when I left that game.
When I read ANet hired Cristin Cox (She was Nexon employee) to oversee the monetization of GW2. I was very sad, my first thought I don’t want to play GW2. But I alreary bought pre-order game apr. 2012. I played a year with the game. That was cool year more and less. I feel it would be better if Gw2 would be subscription fee. Maybe they should pay more attention to the playable contents instead of gem store. I really hate that cash shop system.

Really? You really don’t know why? I’ll give you a hint: it starts with a “Gem” and ends with a “Shop”.
With the amount of locked bl chests that everyone has, i don’t see why they can’t make an NPC bought lock pick.
Give it a high fail chance and A-net could still keep the keys for sale on the gemstore – for people who don’t want to risk the possibility of losing something good.

I’ll give you another hint: it starts with a “Con” and ends with a “spiracy”. They still drop.
They also removed the keys from chests and replaced them with things like ticket scraps (the skins are all hideous so why would I pay money to get them?!). There is so much trash in the BL chests now I wouldn’t pay to open them anyway so why not just let us have the keys since the contents are completely worthless?

LMAO!!!
This amuses me greatly!
I done beta too because I got CE pre-purchase and the key drops were not very common but a decent rate!

I play most days, dungeons, dailies, monthlies, pvp, pve, wvw, lots of characters, never had one drop after beta ended
