The title leaves it pretty clear.

But here is the motivation:

This way people would be able to use /say for these kind of messages, and if you add a player to player trade system(Suggestion) this would promote certain areas being used as marketplaces where people would go to sell and buy stuff without annoying the rest of the map with their WTB/WTS messages.

Would promote role-play behaviour (go to the marketplace to buy stuff), and it would clean up the /map chat for the people who want to discuss other things there.

Good idea in theory; impossible to implement in practice. People would just type WT S or Selling or Want To Sell or W2S

Good point. I guess it would take time to get people to realize it by adding more and more filters. But if any game could pull it through it is this one cause the community is not a total [insert bad word]

I don’t really know why there just isn’t a separate trade chat like there was in GW1
the vast majority of people used it, only occaisionally would you get someone typing it into a different chat.

The main reason (perhaps the only reason that is needed) that trade chat doesn’t exist, is that peer-to-peer trading doesn’t exist. Arenanet want to encourage people to use the TP, and not use the mail/trust route.

The best way for Arenanet to reduce the amount of WTSs and WTBs in map chat, is just to make the Trading Post more appealing.

The trading system is the trading post.

I’m yet to see a single person selling anything cheaper than in he trading post, and I can’t understand why would anyone refuse to use it, other than trying to scam newbies that doesn’t know of the Traing Post, and such behavior should not exist altogether.

By having all trades going through the trading post, they are controlled better, and there’s little risk of getting a microeconomy of speculating powertraders.

If anyone want to roleplay as a trader so be it, let them keep the /say and use the mail but I’m getting tired of people spamming things like “WTS X dye 10 silver” when that dye is 40 copper in the Trading Post.
So in the terms and conditions trade messages should be forbidden from /map, much like in GW1 they are frobidden from Local chat.

GW1 had trade chat, yes, but GW2 doesn’t need it, because there’s a trading post.

The best way to prevent this sort of spam is to make it a reportable offence.
Allow players to report others for spamming the chat with trade messages.

Also when a player attempts a WTS/WTB message in chat it should be ignored, and show up a message for that player that says “Don’t post WTS/WTB in chat, instead learn to use the trade post”.

Just who the hell do you think I am!?

I use /map to sell stuff.

Not sure if you’re aware, there’s a 15% tax on the Trading Post. When you’re selling things that are worth more than a few silver, that can get large.

For example: I sometimes buy mats on the TP for exotic jewlery. If I then try and turn around and sell that back on the TP, I would take a loss.
Selling a 3g item on the TP takes 45s from the price in tax. This means I can sell to locals on the server for cheaper than on the TP, and keep more for myself.

I don’t really know why there just isn’t a separate trade chat like there was in GW1
the vast majority of people used it, only occaisionally would you get someone typing it into a different chat.

The only reason people used trade chat in GW1 is that ANET forced them to with a combination of filters that moved trade spam from general to trade, and threats of action against trade spam in general for those who bypassed the filters. So they know hard it is to build those filters without impacting regular chat.

Or to continue their current method and make trading via other methods unappealing due to the risk of scams. I noticed a major drop in trade spam when the trading post became stable and people weren’t forced to use mail trading.

The only things ANET can do to further reduce trade spam are:
– Officially announce that if you trade with someone via mail and they don’t send what they promised, then you are not getting what you sent back. After all, the more scammers there are preying on mail trading, the less people that will be willing to use it.
– Start punishing people for trade spam.

Not sure if you’re aware, there’s a 15% tax on the Trading Post. When you’re selling things that are worth more than a few silver, that can get large.

That tax is a gold sink. It is essential for the long term health of the GW2 economy. Even more essential that other gold sinks because other gold sinks only sink at a fixed rate, since players earn more than that amount inflation happens and prices rise.
But the more prices rise, the more gold the trading post will sink, slowing inflation until prices eventually get high enough that the tax is sinking more gold that players earn in the same timeframe. Which leads to deflation and prices oscillating around a stable value.

The more people that avoid the trading post due to greed, the less effective the gold sink is. So you’ll just have to chose between the trading post tax and the risk of mail trading scams.

And what exactly would you want to discuss on /map? Who you are to say what should and should not be written on the /map chat? Don’t like it, don’t read it. There are more harmfull things that other players do to each other in this game (Seriously, I don’t want braindead “where is zerg” people on WvW nor USELESS PvE’rs but who will reduce freedom of other players to pleasure me?) and lately gold spammers. If someone don’t want to use TP you have no right to tell him to GTFO. It’s not your circus nor your monkeys.

I don’t personally find WTS/WTB messages annoying, since they’re usually just a few links posted in an otherwise dead /map chat. I’ve yet to see someone who actually “spams”, as in, repeatedly posts the same message over and over again. It’s not spam if they just post it once, and then again 10 minutes later.

Although, all we need is a /trade channel. Problem solved.
