In GW2 shields dont block attacks.

That is the dumbest game decision i have ever seen in a MMO.

most shields on most classes have a block skill that i know of.. i love the fact that having a shield doesnt make you auto block at random..

Warrior: Shield stance block attacks.
Engineer: Gear shield block attacks.

They do.
But they require you to use skills.

Being able to block every single attacks either at random or guaranteed because you have a shield is silly.

Shield Stance
Magnetic Shield
Static Shield

Yeah.. shields don’t block at all.

The exception to this is the guardian, which is kinda silly because they’re supposed to guard against stuff. But they still have protection

not sure if it’s just my impression or actually supported by mechanics, but when my guardians have a shield on, even if not in hand, they have a higher rate of blocking than normal. it’s actually amusing to run through a group of centaur archers and suddenly hearing the thwack of an arrow hitting the shield on the guardian’s back without doing any damage because it was blocked.

That’s probably your Aegis protecting you.

…normally i’d go “doh” and agree with you, i do tend to ignore mechanics once i get used to them, this only seems to happen when the shield is equipped though
