Button to temporarily disable autotargeting?
I actually just made a post about this sort of thing. Give it a look.

Oh, sorry, didn’t see it ^^"
Now, I don’t mean to be rude, but having read your suggestion, I daresay mine is a bit more simple [puffs chest out proudly].
Autotargeting is a good thing.
It isn’t. It’s a crutch. Learn to play without it. Instead bind a key to “select nearest target”, which is exactly what auto-targeting does automatically. You get far more control from the game and your issue with trying to remain un-targeted for certain skills (such as ride the lightning) disappears.
You’re welcome.

I could. I could learn to play without many things. However, this isn’t a thread on “how to accept the unnecessary difficulties in the game to have the edge in combat,” but about “how to make the game easier and give more control over combat by adding a simple keybind – without breaking the balance.”
I still use manual targeting, and the keybind you mentioned, but it’s not enough to me.
It matters all the more since GW2 is a blinding fast game and in big fights (think WvW battles) you don’t really have the leisure to sit back and target people as you would in, let’s say, WoW.
So, the problem, as far as I’m concerned, still stands.

You’re wrong. It CAN be a crutch. But it can also get you killed with leap skills, or projectiles that are then fired into reflects you could have avoided. When utilized correctly it can be an extreme asset. I have 16 level 80s that are all used in wvw, some use auto target, others do not. It all depends on what their role is, what weapons they use, and how they operate. The point here is that using or not using auto target effectively will make you a better player, yes. But saying auto target is not good, that is incorrect.

Simple yet annoying. I honestly would rather not hold down ANOTHER button constantly. I already juggle many other things when playing WvW.
