“How’d that happen?”
“He doesn’t talk about it.” – Stephen Fry
As the search function doesn’t seem to work for these forums I can’t find out whether or not this is a repeat suggestion. Regardless it deserves some attention.
The camera distance in GW2 doesn’t zoom out far enough. Not nearly far enough. Give us a /command to set the camera out as far as we like, comparable to the one found in that Scottish MMORPG (sorry to those that don’t get this reference. Google Macbeth). It looks like this:
/console cameraDistanceMax 1
1-999 is an enormous range in that game which can make your character more or less the size of an ant (might be exaggerating).
It’s very useful, very convenient and a very good touch of customization that is always appreciated.
Yes! I put this in as a suggestion earlier this week and couldn’t agree more with you.
Yes, the camera is to close as it is. Just increase the range of that slider so we can zoom out more.
I see where there could be a problem with items like arrow carts, since we would get better view, and be able to fire better, so I would agree with a limited view distance when you control a cart.
I think part of the reason they have the camera zoomed out as far as it is is because when you go to fight the big monster at the end of a world event chain, the camera zooms out about another 50% or so. Getting that extra bit of camera distance seems to help distinguish those boss fights as being especially epic compared to everything leading up to it.
Having the camera zoomed out that far all the time, with no difference between regular play and a world boss fight, takes away one tool A.net has to make world boss fights stand out.
Playing as a Norn, I feel ya. It feels like my camera can’t zoom out far enough unless I’m in a world boss fight. But the reason above may be one of the reasons A.net has the camera set the way it is. If A.net doesn’t want to change the camera distance, another thing they could do would be to include a field of view slider, going from the default 65 up to about 100. More viewable space, same camera distance.
