I opened my 2nd chest today and I received 6 soulbound PVP rewards… I CAN’T use any of these.

Why on earth can’t we at least get something that can be used if we do not pvp? Why only pvp option and not pve?

I can’t tell you how many pvp soulbound items I have received and cannot use. Most cannot even be salvaged, let alone sold on the TP. It appears I cannot even put them into the Mystic Forge as only one of them is allowed but none of them together.

I do wish Anet would adjust this issue. It’s fine for folks who like to pvp, but I do not, and don’t ever plan to.

Well, I’ll try that once the darned game allows me back in. It kicked me out just a few moments ago for a download.

Ok, got back in and tried that…thanks. But it still does not address my initial question. I would love to be able to use these silly things but I can’t. Seems mighty unfair that pve’rs can’t use anything pvp unless they pvp. Most of us don’t pvp.

Waste as far as I can see. It would make more sense if we got “tickets” for our choice.

My complaint with the PVP rewards is that I am getting items that are unusable by my class and they are soulbound. I can’t even transfer to an ALT.

That means they are totally useless.

Why can’t they guarantee equipment that you could at least use like they do the profession boxes bought with laurels?

Mad Rasputin, I agree with you 100%. I do not understand why they have these restrictions on all this stuff. The least they could do is make some of it account bound so at least you can send it to an alt, if you happen to have one that can actually use the stuff.

However, I have not seen any change since the launch of the game that fixes this type of problem. Only a very few exceptions have I seen this changed for.

Not very player friendly in my opinion. I keep thinking they are only looking at the way to make more $$ for Anet as opposed to allowing players to actually “play the game and use items” as they want.

I don’t see how this makes money for Anet one way or another. If there was a “un-soulbind” item in the gem shop, then the money making argument would have merit.

I don’t know what it is. Either poor foresight or uncaring. I agree it’s pretty stupid that you open those achievement chests and get nothing you can actually use.

When you deposit the items, they become account bound. It’s a small oversight on their part, but it doesn’t make a large difference.

Also, those “PvP Items” are all PvE skins (there are only 1-2 armor sets in PvP that you can’t get in PvE).

And, in reverse, think about all the PvP’ers that don’t get rewarded for things people do in PvE. Most PvP’ers don’t have that many AP because PvP doesn’t reward nearly as much AP as PvE or WvW.

I sent all those items to “deposit collectables” but cannot find them in my collections anywhere in my bank. So where did they go?

When I said that $$ remark, I was thinking about all the stuff for sale in the TP you purchase with gems. Unless you have accumulated sufficient in-game gold, most folks use RL money to purchase gems.

yes, but none of it has to do with PVP gear. I don’t see the connection between soulbound PVP gear and the gem store.

If you click the crossed swords in your UI you will see a button that says “go to the heart of the mists”. This is the PvP lobby and in there you can find a wardrobe that stores all of your PvP skins. Storing can be done through the “deposit collectible” option and once an item is stored, all of your characters can pick it up.

“But I don’t do PvP!” you say: that’s too bad! Arenanet is rewarding items that are used in all aspects of the game ( PvE, WvW and PvP ) so store them and enjoy the rest of what you got. And no, you can’t get tickets for PvE skins because skins in PvE are meant to be obtained through specific means (dungeons, crafting, karma, etc ).

All pvp items once deposited go into your pvp locker for use on all pvp characters.
Go to the mists through your crossed-swords icon. The pvp locker is close to the pvp gear merchants.
PvP locker is also the best place to preview gear skins as every skin has a slot in the locker and every slot has a preview option whether you own the piece or not, so you might want to check it out often.

Thank you both: Redfeather.6401 and Wolfheart.1938 for your responses. I am woefully uninformed about the pvp locker. I remember someone saying something about a gear locker but I was not really paying attention to it. I knew that if I went to one of those lockers I could actually see how any of the gear looked on my characters.

SPvP gear is bound to your character to keep you from selling it to other people. This 100% makes sense. To put it on another character deposit it, it will appear in your SPvP locker. Now go to the locker in the mists on whatever character you want to wear that item on and withdraw it and equip it.

Next time take the 5 seconds and just ask somebody in your guild or in LA b4 you QQ the boards.

Oh and just in case you get PvP items that with a greyed out “deposit” option, it means that you already have one stored. You can salvage the items with PvP salvage kits bought in the heart of the mists or equip them on one of your character (if you like the skin and don’t want to forfeit it). Feel free to delete the basic PvP armor/weapons you get when into the heart of the mists as they can be bought for free.

Since for some strange reason all minigames/activities use the armor you wear in PvP, you might care a little about making a good looking PvP set. That is all, now go and multiply O.o

Great! heheeh…I really do enjoy just meandering through this game. I enjoy the free style combat but am not impressed with pvp. That just is not my interest even though I know a lot of folks like it…it just is not for me.

But, you said use the skin ??? can I really transmute the pvp skin onto a pvp item? Now that would be wonderful…I’ll have to check that out.

Also, I had no idea there were special salvage kits available…nice to know that.

PvP items ARE skins. All of your stats are condensed into an amulet when doing PvP, and this is why the PvP items you got have no stats on them. So if you like the appearence of one, just go into the heart of the mists and wear it. No need to transmute anything. Don’t worry about runes or sigils as those can be acquired for free from some NPCs.

Every PvP-related item has a special slot in the PvP locker we talked about. This includes the salvage kits and the special crafting materials you obtain through using it. In fact you probably found very basic ( and ugly ) PvP weapons such as “PvP Rifle” or “PvP Longbow” whose sole purpose is to be salvaged into materials. These crafting materials are then used to craft PvP items of your choice into the PvP mystic forge.
Now my personal suggestion would be to wear the items you like and just deposit the rest, as bothering with the crafting system is not worth it if you don’t PvP. Gorgeous PvP galore!

Hahahahaha, @Wolfheart, I wear the default PvP skin simply so my opponents won’t know my level of skill in HotM. It works quite nicely, as I get people trying to bullrush me as if I’m an underleveled in WvW.

Actually that trick has worked a bunch of times on me now that I think of it! Newcomers are my favourite meal, but I recall some kicking back insanely well and then discovering they were r40

Now if only armor skins meant anything anymore… with the free handouts done with the ticket merchant and now achievement chests there’s no “status symbol” skins anymore. Not that I care, I wouldn’t have gotten them anyways, just sharing this minor complaint.

Hmmmm… I’ve never participated in the Keg Brawl and only did the Sanctum Sprint once because I wanted those crystals. But I did not even finish the race as I kept getting bounced back to the starting line before I got to the finish line.

I do have to agree that a lot of the gear I see in the game is truly horrendous. I really like some of the heavy gear that has recently been making an appearance but I can’t transmute that to light armor.

If I could transmute the pvp gear onto my pve stuff, I certainly would do it. So much of the armor in this game makes my eyes bleed….wooooo… I can really relate to your comments on that.
