Can we PLEASE run backwards?
Why do you need to run backwards?
If I’m pulling a bunch of mobs to my party in a dungeon, I’d like to shoot my bow while I’m leading them without being bent over.
Is running backwards a bad thing in general?

Apply this strategy to an encounter of the player versus player variety.
Hint: It’d get annoying for melee really quick.
Besides, have you ever tried to run backwards in real life? It doesn’t work out well with no third person camera to look behind you :P
There’s game play reasons for it – there are a number of skills that have added effects when flanking – if you could move as quickly facing a mob as you can not facing it, you would be harder to flank.

Lighten up, it was a joke. Well, more of a quip actually.

Nope, never tried going outside, that’d be silly.
However, you could try side strafing back to teammates, since you can attack in a reasonably wide arc, or zig zag backwards. Theres ways to do it, it just takes creativity.
It’s part of the game. Why do you think there’s so many ’can’t fire behind the player’ changes in the skill updates?
There’s skills that deal more damage when attacking the back and the flanks.
In general, leaving your back unguarded is bad.
If you were to run backwards, you would have no need to turn around to run faster back, leaving your back unguarded.
It’s a choice. Either you run faster away and can’t use skills behind you, or you can use skills but move slower.
I recommend running in circles around the target, trying to move behind them. It’s better than moving backwards anyways, as enemies will break aggro, run back to their spawn points and heal if you move too far away.
It would make being a melee class at least 5x harder. in order for someone to kite you at full speed, they need to turn their back and run the opposite direction. This prevents them from running away AND doing dmg.
If you want to kite and do damage at the same time, your speed is lowered. That is the sacrifice. Otherwise, melee would be killed to the point of uselessness. No amount of snare would get it to work.

So much this. If you’ve ever played a single player RPG that has ranged classes, back peddling is the easiest way to deal with melee fighters. Some games even allow you to run backwards just as fast as running forwards, which means melee enemies would never hit you. It’s the quickest way to break pvp.
The Lost Shores should have stayed lost.
I agree with most posters in this thread. No one can run backwards as fast as they can forwards, let alone aim a ranged weapon accurately. Additionally, it would be OP against melee players (except spamseekers). Be thankful they allow you to fire your ranged weapon from point blank range, as it’s not something that should work as well as it does in many peoples opinions.
to run backwards: reverse camera (i have it bound to c) and press w. Tada!
Just turn the camera around and press ‘w’, done, seriously.
Also, backwards running animation would look silly, you just don’t “run” backwards efficiently, you can if you really want to try it but it’s just not efficient. If you were to face danger you wouldn’t run backwards from it, you would make your fastest ever 180º turn to face forward and you’d run for it, forward.
What a strange suggestion this is.
you are not supposed to run backwards.
try running backwards in real life.
Backpeddling is almost useless in every MMO and a big no-no in PvP.
Strafing is what you are looking for. While strafing you run as fast as you would run forward and still can shoot the mob following you. Same what you do while kiting.
I’m sick of my character just walking backwards. What’s the point of that? Is running backwards OP? Are people gunna abuse the “s” key? The undead are already faster than any other mob. Mobs already reset of you walk backwards too much.
Apart from the obvious fact you can’t run as fast backward than you can forward IRL, I think it is there to make dealing damage while kiting harder. Of course you can try to strafe-run while attacking. And yeah undead should be nerfed, fast undead are a stupid, modern invention, why can’t we have proper scary SLOW zombies that paralyze you and hit like a truck? Fast undead are not scary, the whole creepy slow ackward movement is what makes them scary.
that would make kiting OP, simple as that. you can strafe and fire at the same time, as i’ve learned to do with my engineer, and strafing is almost as fast as running forward (except movement boost signets don’t affect it, and i think swiftness doesn’t either).
as an alternative, rangers have a shortbow skill that lets them fire with their backs to the enemy.
