I was thinking to myself, what if I got a really cool drop, like Dusk, when I wanted another really cool drop, like Dawn? Sure, I could throw it up on the BLTC and hope to get enough to buy the one I wanted, but that’s a very lossy process. It would be far better if I could find someone with the exact thing I wanted, and do a straight trade. Of course, if it were a mail trade, there is a high potential for scamming, especially with such high value objects. This is where escrow comes in.

I think this would be very easy to set up, the UI would be very similar to a Transmutation Stone’s. You’d activate a dialog with the other person via whatever means (if you wanted to take your cut, you could have people buy a “stone” or something). It would have a pane on one side and a pane on the other. You can dump several items and/or currency into your pane, they can dump their stuff into the other, but neither of you can claim anything yet. Then, once you see what you like, you can hit “accept,” which locks the choices in. At this point, the other party can either hit “accept” as well, which transfers the items between the characters, or they can hit “cancel” to clear your acceptance, which would allow them to renegotiate their side without obligating you to agree to it.

In any case, this system would allow two players to trade high value items, without any chance I can see of scamming the other party, and with very limited overhead or need for CS interaction.

Good to go?

A trade window would be a simpler solution with the same end result. An end result that ANET doesn’t like, which is why we don’t have a trade window.
